BREAKING: Saraki’s Chief of Staff dumps APC, gives reasons

Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, the Chief of Staff to the Senate President Bukola Saraki, on Monday dumped the All Progressives Congress, APC, but was quick to clarify that his decision had nothing to do with his principal.

He described his decision to leave the APC as a difficult one, disclosing that his resignation is coming after due consultation with members of his Akida faction of the APC in Kaduna, which also has the senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, as member. Baba-Ahmed, while addressing journalists in Kaduna on Monday, said he has sent a letter of withdrawal from APC to the party chairman in his ward. H

e explained that he was not leaving APC to join another party but believes the ruling party has underperformed. According to him, “This statement is to inform the public of my resignation from APC. I have sent a formal letter to this effect to chairman of my ward. “This has been a very difficult decision, to leave a party I helped to form and made my humble contributions to put in power. “After three years, however, I need to say that the APC has grossly under-performed and has forfeited any claim to my loyalty and continue membership. “I do not believe in all conscience, that it should be trusted and encouraged to continue to govern our great country beyond 2019.

“I am not leaving to join another party. This is my decision and mine alone . It has nothing to do with the president of the senate, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki. “It’s a decision taken after due consultations with Akida Group, a group that has predated my appointment as chief of staff to the President of the Senate.

“I will remain active in politics, as this is the main avenue for salvaging our nation from rising insecurity, poverty and bitter divisions,” he said.

July 14: Ekiti People Will Resist Rigging, Says PDP

July 2, 2018

Press Statement

FB_IMG_1529597253020

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says nobody can rig the July 14, 2018 Ekiti governorship election, despite the machination by the All Progressives Congress (APC) working with some compromised Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials and security agencies.

PDP restates that the will of the people is stronger than the machinations of evil-minded persons, who are toying with the determination of the people for a free and fair electioneering.

The party warns that INEC officials working with agents of the APC to compromise the process are brazenly risking the legitimate wrath of the people of Ekiti State in their iron-cast resolve to ensure that nobody subverts their will in this election.

The people of Ekiti state are already aware of the clandestine meetings between known INEC officials and APC agents, including those held at the Ondo state Government House, Akure, where plots were hatched to use INEC’s ICT Department to preload card readers and input false results, as well as cloning unclaimed Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) to superimpose pictures of their members from other states.

The PDP cautions these compromised INEC officers, their allies in the APC and those they planned to import from other states, to note that their tracks and footprints are all bare and that the people of Ekiti state are already at alert and ready to stop them on their trails with every potency available to them under the law.

What the APC and their cohorts in INEC fail to note is that Ekiti is a contiguous state where every indigene and residents know and can identify one another other as individuals and families and that as such there is no way in which strangers imported from other states can be allowed to sneak in and participate in their election.

Let it be known to all that the PDP is fully mobilized for the July 14 election. The people of Ekiti state are fully rallied to vigilance at every polling unit, every collation center as well as every exit and entry points in their respective areas across the state to ensure that nobody subverts their collective will.

We restate the fact, clearly known both to INEC and the APC, that Ekiti state is a stronghold of the PDP and that the people are solidly behind the PDP, particularly due to the sterling performance of Governor Ayo Fayose in developing the state in all spheres of live.

The APC and their rejected candidate should therefore end their desperation to forcefully take over the state as no amount of machination, intimidation, threats or even arrests and detention can subjugate the people of Ekiti state, on any score, let alone, on their governorship election.

Justice Ojukwu ruled that the Federal Government’s contention that Dasuki was being kept in custody on the grounds of his alleged threat to national security and his alleged ongoing investigation for money laundering did not warrant “abrogating his right”.

JuSambo-Dasukistice Ijeoma Ojukwu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail in the sum of N200 million to Sambo Dasuki, former National Security Adviser, who has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since 2015

Granting Dasuki bail on Monday, the Judge said that his detention since December 2015 was a violation of his right to liberty.

Justice Ojukwu ruled that the Federal Government’s contention that Dasuki was being kept in custody on the grounds of his alleged threat to national security and his alleged ongoing investigation for money laundering did not warrant “abrogating his right”.

Rejecting Dasuki’s prayer for N5bn damages, Justice Ojukwu granted him bail in the sum of N200m with two sureties who must either be a civil servant of Grade Level 16 at the minimum in the Federal Civil Service or private citizens, who have landed properties in the municipal areas of Abuja.

Justice Ojukwu directed that  the DSS could only invite the ex-NSA boss for interview between the hours of 9am and 6pm on working days, if there was need for further questioning.

This is not the first or second time Dasuki has been granted bail by a court, and comes a year and nine months after the Economic Community of West African States Court of Justice ordered his release from illegal custody, in October 2016; a judgement that the DSS had not obeyed.

Mobile policemen on Monday in Maiduguri staged a protest over non-payment of their allowances.

The  protesting policemen barricaded the command’s headquarters located on Maiduguri-Kano expressway.

The protest disrupted traffic on the road. One of protesting policemen who pleaded anonymity, said they were angry over non-payment of their Kafanchan-Crisis-8-e1482618118594 commands but we have not received our allowances in the past six months. Policemen “We have been serving at the command headquarters since our deployment; but some of us deployed to other locations outside the headquarters were being paid their allowances as and when due. “We have been facing hardships as a result of the non-payment of the allowances. We have made several complaints but nobody listened to us,” the aggrieved policeman said. The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Damian Chukwu, blamed the nonpayment on the delay in the passage of the 2018 budget. He called on the protesting policemen to calm down and assured them that their allowances would be paid.
