The Federal Government has arraigned Gabriel Suswam, former Governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam, before a federal capital territory (FCT), Abuja, court on a three-count charge of illegal possession of firearms.

Suswam was arraigned on Friday, after his arrest on June 21 by the Department of State Services (DSS).

The DSS first arrested the former Governor in February 2017, saying its operatives had uncovered a large cache of arms and ammunition from a property allegedly linked to him in Abuja.

The agency had disclosed in a statement that the arrest followed a tip-off that some incriminating items were stashed in the boots of cars parked at the property.

Items recovered by the security operatives during the raid included a glock pistol with two magazines and a total of 29 rounds of ammunition; a mini-uzi with two magazines containing 10 rounds and four rounds respectively; 42 extra rounds of ammunition contained in a pack, and one Ak-47.

Galadima, National Chairman of the Reformed All Progressives Congress (R-APC), says the breakaway faction of the ruling party has enough support in the National Assembly to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari.

Galadima said this on Friday in response to the statement by Adams Ohshimhole, National Chairman of the APC, that he would not lose sleep over the emergence of the Galadima faction.

“There is no breakup. If one Galadimma is not happy, that is fine. He has a right not to be happy. If he chooses to call himself whatever he wants to call himself, that is not the issue; you and I will not lose my sleep over that,” Oshiomhole had said on Thursday.

“We know those who are in the system.  Those who are seeking breakup; that is their problem. We are engaging real stakeholders. I mean between the Executive and the two arms of the National Assembly. We have very important, influential leaders we are engaging. People are being sponsored by those who thought our convention would be a failure…

“They were expecting implosion.  If you review the headlines before the convention, there were stories like people were going to walk out of the convention and that people would boycott the convention. In the end they were shocked to find out the President was seated, the Senate President was seated, the Speaker was seated and the national leaders were seated. Our Chairman was seated. All the Governors were seated. They are like, what do we do next? If after two weeks of living in pains, they are disappointed, they find mercenaries who are willing to be hired for a purpose, they have right to be hired but will not cause any distraction within the core of APC leaders.”

According to reported by THISDAY, Galadima said his group could muster enough votes in the National Assembly to carry out a successful impeachment exercise if needed.

“I want to say that todBuba Galadimaay, as I sit here, if I give a directive to our members in the National Assembly to impeach for constitutional infractions, it would be carried out because we have that majority,” he said.

Responding to Oshiomole’s claim that R-APC members were mercenaries, he said: “On that side, there is no man of integrity and honesty as Buba Galadima. Those of us that had sacrificed our sweat and blood cannot sit idly and watch these values destroyed. This is the beginning of what is called crisis in the party.

“We believe that all the values and visions of APC have been thrown to the dustbin. Nigerians from all works of life have shown solidarity with us. For those who said that they are not losing sleep, why are they scampering to the National Assembly to beg cap in hand?”

APC became factionalised on Wednesday, when Galadima, Buhari’s former ally, led some members of the APC to form a breakaway group on the argument that the ruling party has been “a monumental disaster, worse than the government it replaced” — that of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

You’re Barren Of Every Essential Honour’ — Ex-Senate President Pens Scorching Open Letter Against Saraki

He therefore asked Saraki to “Please withdraw your membership of the National Assembly by resigning your position”.

Ebute said this in an open letter to Saraki, which he released to newsmen on Friday.

He accused the leadership of the current Assembly of importing despicable autocracy and despotism into parliamentary engagements.

He also lamented that by protecting the abominable and despising the truth, the Senate President has succeeded in turning the Red Chamber into a combat theatre.

“Your leadership of the Senate has shown an absolute proclivity to vindictiveness and witch-hunting of colleagues who share views opposed to your disposition. Such members are goaded to the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee peopled by your acolytes, who have accepted the loathsome job of serving as your hatchet men. They unduly or unlawfully punish dissenting voices for the audacity of holding an opinion contrary to your thinking,” read the open letter.

“The suspension of Senators Ali Ndume and Omo-Agege are some of the few examples of your aberrational leadership of the Senate and the National Assembly. You have turned the Red Chamber into a combat theatre, protecting the abominable, but despising truth. This is the extent of your moral deficit, which has disqualified you from belonging or even leading an assemblage of honourable men and women.

“Sir, in my humble opinion, you are barren of every essential ingredient and honour to continue to preside over any parliament anywhere in the world. The abysmal performance of the Senate under your watch, the padding of national budget or the simmering regime of corruption your leadership has allowed to creep into the Senate strips you of any qualification to be a member of Nigeria’s National Assembly.

“Nigerians have tolerated your leadership deficit enough and time has come for you to have a rethink and do the needful. We are tired of your scandalous outings at every point. It is either, you are fingered in armed robbery today, or some illicit monies are traced to your account abroad, which are matters the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria does not approve of any public office holder.

“Therefore, at the behest of all men of good conscience and lovers of Nigeria, I am advising you to do the needful. Please, withdraw your membership of the National Assembly by resigning your position. And the time to act appropriately is now. It is the collective desire of all Nigerians to see their country progress. We cannot continue to stomach or tolerate a leadership liability like you anymore.”

The Supreme Court has upheld the appeal of Senate President Bukola Saraki and discharged him of the remaining three charges against him in the case of false declaration of assets.

The court upheld the appeal in a lead judgment delivered by Justice Centus Nweze on Friday in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

Senator Saraki had filed an appeal at the apex court to challenge the ruling of the Court of Appeal which asked the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) to try him on three of the 18 counts brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)

Delivering judgment on Saraki’s appeal against the decision of the Court of Appeal, the apex court held that the prosecution failed to call material witnesses to support its case against the Senate President.

The court agreed that all those who have knowledge of facts were not called to testified in the matter and held that those who tendered documentary evidence against Saraki during the trial were not makers of the document, hence, their evidence on the documents were hearsay and lacked probative value.

The Supreme Court also held that the Court of Appeal made a caricature of its judgment when it found as a fact that the entire evidence presented by the prosecution was hearsay and manifestly unreliable and still went ahead to agree that prima facie case was established against the Senate President in three out of the 18 charges.

Justice Nweze the ruled that there was no basis for the Court of Appeal to have asked Saraki to defend himself on the three charges, having found the entire evidence of the prosecution as a product of hearsay,

He added that the action of the Court of Appeal amounted to forensic summersault and capable of making Ill of jurisprudence.

“This court will not lend its jurisdiction to such a charade and caricature of justice. It carries grave error in holding that a prima facie case has been established against the appellant,” the court held.

“The prosecution is duty bound by law to call all key witnesses to be able to establish prima facie case against anybody,” it added.

In all, the five-panel of the apex court in the unanimous judgment agreed that the failure of the Federal Government to call vital witnesses in the trial of Saraki was fatal and rendered the trial nugatory.

The court dismissed the entire 18 charges brought against Saraki by the Federal Government and consequently discharged and acquitted the Senate President accordingly.

In June 2017, the CCT quashed an 18-count of false asset declaration and money laundering levelled against the Senate President by the EFCC for lacking in merit.

The tribunal had also agreed with the Senate President that he had no case to answer.

While the appeal court agreed in part with the lower court in its ruling on January 14, 2018, it held that Saraki had a case to answer in counts 4, 5, and 6, which had to do with his purchase of properties in the Ikoyi area of Lagos State.

“President Buhari Is Caged By Cabal” – Father Mbaka cried out

PIC.-7.-REV.-FR.-EJIKE-MBAKA-VISITS-PRESIDENT-BUHARI-IN-ABUJA-700x395Mbaka, the spiritual director of Adoration Ministry, Enugu, said this during an exclusive chat with the publisher of SaharaReporters and 2019 presidential aspirant, Omoyele Sowore.

“Buhari meant well for the country but I can see Buhari as a man whose ideologies has been kidnapped, I can see somebody that is bemused, I can see a man that is confused, I can see Buhari in spite of his goodwill he has some people around him that has no ideology that is in tandem with his,” he said in parts.

“When I was telling Jonathan and Co, they can’t come back instead of believing, they started attacking me and God says the chair is vacant Buhari will take over, I never knew who Buhari was. They accused me of being sponsored by Buhari and God knows until now Buhari has never given me One Kobo.

“Am not against his leadership because he has not given me anything, am only unhappy with him because he doesn’t want to make necessary changes.

“The much I know about Buhari is he meant well, but it’s too unfortunate that he is caged by people who are not telling him the truth.”

Recall that on 2018 New Year day, Fr. Mbaka who had anointed Buhari as President in 2015, asked him not to run for a second term in office. He said:

“I’m asked to advise you, don’t come out for the second tenure; after this, and retire peacefully. Come back to yourself or you will cry by the time you will be sent out of office. Those who are encouraging you to come out and run again want to disgrace you shamefully and publicly.

“The country needs change, as I said Buhari is a good man but because of a lot of factors around him, those around him are not telling him the truth, even when they tell him the truth and he gives orders they go and mutilate it and tell him that everybody is happy and that everything is moving well.

“We need God to give us someone after his own heart, who can emancipate Nigeria, because Nigeria is the heart of Africa, is the hub of Africa forget about South Africa or whatever she is doing. Nigeria is Africa because when Nigeria is good, Africa is good.”
