President Muhammadu Buhari says the country’s judicial system, no matter the challenges it faces, is truly working and no one should be allowed to undermine or break it.

Tbuhari-usahe President’ Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, in a statement in Abuja on Saturday, said Buhari made the statement while reacting to Friday’s Supreme Court verdict on Senate President Bukola Saraki.

The Supreme Court had, on Friday, set free the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, of charges in the case of false assets declaration at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT). President Buhari said: “I have seen many instances where individuals and groups seek the destruction of the judicial institution in the foolish thinking of saving their skin, instead of going through the painstaking process of establishing their innocence. “In the case of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, I have seen him take the tortuous path of using the judicial process.

“He persevered, and in the end, the highest court of the land, the Supreme Court, says he is not guilty as charged. “This is what I have done in the three elections in which I was cheated out, before God made it possible for me to come here the fourth time I ran for the office.”

The president said the Senate President’s journey from the lowest to the highest court of the land provided an important example for Nigerians to emulate.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the Supreme Court had upheld the Code of Conduct Tribunal’s ruling, clearing Saraki of all 18 count charges bothering on assets declaration.(NAN)

PDP Hails Supreme Court Judgment on Saraki

July 6, 2018

Press StatementFB_IMG_1529597253020The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has hailed, as a triumph of justice, the Supreme Court judgment, dismissing the asset declaration case against Senate President Bukola Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

The party said the Supreme Court, by the judgment, has further reinforced the confidence of Nigerian citizens in the courage of the institution of the judiciary, as the temple of justice and the last hope of the common man, particularly under an oppressive regime.

The PDP says that the judgment has further supported its disposition that the Buhari Presidency’s fight against corruption is mere shadow-chasing and a clever attempt at blackmailing the opposition as well as anyone who holds a divergent voice against this administration.

The party said the judgment should serve as a spur for all judicial officers at all levels to be bold in upholding the dispensation of justice in all cases without fear, let or politically induced hindrances.

Native doctor shot dead testing bullet-proof amulet

A 26-year-old native doctor, Chinaka Adoezuwe, has been shot dead at Umuozu Ugiri in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State while testing the efficacy of his touted ‘bullet-proof ’ charm.

It was learnt that the said traditional medicine man was inadvertently shot dead by one of his clients, Chukwudi Ijezie, who he had prepared a special bullet-proof amulet for.

A resident of the area, Kingsley, told journalists that Ijezie, who is now in police net, had gone to the herbalist to procure charms that would fortify and render him immune to bullets. The herbalist, according Kingsley, after preparing the charms, instructed Ijezie to position himself so that he (the native doctor) could test and confirm the efficacy of the charms.

The customer bluntly refused to comply with the instruction. However, in an exuberant show of bravado, the native doctor confident in the potency of his charms opted to wear the charms and position himself for the test of the anti-bullet charm.

He allegedly handed over a gun to his customer and asked him to shoot at him so he can be convinced beyond doubt of the potency of the charm. The bullets struck home, resulting in the native doctor’s instant death. The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Andrew Enwerem, said the customer, now a suspect, had been arrested. He said: “The suspect is in our custody. It is a case of murder.

The Isiala Mbano Division of the command had moved in and arrested the suspect and returned normalcy to the area. “The case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) in Owerri for thorough investigation.”
