Anambra Investment Portfolio Increases by $100m worth of Investment. By Obika Chidiebele

“I know we worked hard in my first term but we will work harder in this second term” ~ Gov Willie Obiano, March 17, 2018.

The driving force of Gov Willie Obiano’s vision stems from his unequalled propensity to aggressively develop Anambra state and make her an investor’s haven.

This zeal could be observed from his approach to security and returns on investments, the key question for every potential investor. Anambra, almost the second smallest state in Nigeria (landmass size) has the highest concentration of genuine billionaires in Africa (over 200); the highest concentration of private jet owners and houses. It has the biggest market in West Africa, with over five million people living and working in the state.

The State’s Nnewi industrial cluster manufactures a whole lot of products from motorcycles and spare parts to House Hold utensils. The Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Coy whie has purchase order from the Nigerian military for army trucks is considered the first Indigenous vehicle manufacturing company in Africa.

Anambra has the people, the market and most importantly, security, which ensures proper returns on investments.

The golden touch Anambra receives under the leadership of Gov Willie Obiano, had nudged the state ahead in several indices: Safest State in the Nation, 3rd biggest Economy in Nigeria with consistent growth in GDP, Massive Infrastructures and institutionalization of governance among others.

It is no longer news that there is today the Anambra Investment Promotion and Protection Agency, ANSIPPA.

This one-stop shop for investment is the first of its kind in Nigeria. Through this Agency, the government enters into partnership with willing investors and this arrangement has seen Anambra net about $4.5b worth of investments.

Through these partnerships, Anambra has become the most beautiful bride in the investment circuit in Nigeria. These investments span across all the sectors of the economy (Agriculture, Oil and Gas, Housing, environment and others). It suffices to add that Anambra state under Gov Willie Obiano is close toself sufficiency in staple foods; Rice, Casava, Vegetables, Tomatoes and other industrial goods like Sorghum for beer production.

Anambra’s stable economy was evidenced during the recession period in Nigeria. Anambra state was among the few states in Nigeria, that remained solvent through the crushing and depressing periods of the recession.

It was during this period that the state adopted the Community Choose A Project Initiative. Through this program, all the 177 communities and 65 major markets in the state received N20m each to build any project according to their need.

The regular payment of workers salaries, pensions and gratuities remained one of the masterstrokes that sustained circulation of money within the state which helped check the biting recession.
Gov Willie Obiano rode to electoral victory at the November 18th 2017 guber polls where he won in all the local government areas in the state, an indication that his strides in all the sectors of governance have been felt across the State. Gov Willie Obiano, being mindful of the trust ndi Anambra have in him, has continued exploring ways of attracting investments into the state.

His recent Anambra State Investment Summit held at Chicago Illinois, USA, was a testament to this.

Chief Obiano practically took his “Aku Luo Uno” message to ndi Anambra in America and other interested investors. This summit which held from 23rd through 24th of April, 2018, saw a clear down-to-top approach whereby the state contingent led by His Excellency, Dr Willie Obiano with (Mr Primus Odili – Chief of Staff, Mr Mark Okoye – Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mac Atasia – Chairman, ANETT, Mr Jide – CEO of ANSIPPA), and the facilitators; Vincent Izuegbu PhD, Dr Anthony Emeka Ibekie and Hon U.S Aniukwu had a successful summit. The Team visited the Monsanto Agronomy Centre where a class was held with talks on Maize, Soya bean and Sugar cane; its duration, varieties, pests and benefits. Questions were asked and answered; the team sought to know the compatibility of America’s species with the Nigerian soil, weather, output and protein yield.

The summit rose with an estimated investment plan worth of over $100m from Bill Sample, Travel Chips, Monsanto Centre USA. These arrangements facilitated by ndi Anambra in Chicago Illinois, have the capacity of making Anambra self sufficient in large scale maize, soya bean, cat fish and tilapia productions and processing.

Currently, Anambra ranks tops in foreign direct investments by states in Nigeria. The investors in the coming months are expected to finalise their memorandum of Understanding and launch into the field.

Dunukofia Local Government Area, Anambra state Demand Power Sharing /Zoning

Power sharing /Zoning can be described as a political formula adopted to ensure the protection, representation and participation of every ethnic identity in decision making process in a multi-ethnic society. Let sees and embrace power sharing as a set of principles that when carried out through practices and institutions provide every relevant identity group or segment in a society representation and decision making abilities on common (socio-political) issues and a degree of autonomy over issues of importance to the group. In essence it is an accommodative strategy. …

Dunukofia LGA cried out loud for Power Sharing

The rationale behind this strategy can be viewed as laudable; this is because it discourages sectional/regional imbalance as well as bias in formulating socio-economic and political policies. The basis for power sharing in a multi communities (Like Dunukofia) if embraced and properly implemented is to minimize as much as possible, democratic competition within acceptable boundaries in order to avoid intergroup violence that would have resulted from socio-political differences, opinions and demands along ethnic lines . However the principle of power sharing has been subjected to both academic and political debates since 1952-date,remember how we got independent and sharing of power between North and South

This is a big problem to Nigeria, we need to do the needful because it encompasses other ethnic groups whose identity cannot be whisked away but also represent potentials for power sharing. ZIK OF African suggests IN 1982 that there are certain socio-political conditions under which power sharing arrangement work out in achieving success towards managing ethnic conflict in a multi-ethnic society which are: the system must be embraced by all genuine political leaders representing each ethnic group, the practices must be flexible and allowed for equitable distribution of resources, the system is indigenously arrived at, not agreed on as the result of too-heavy external pressure or short term, zero-sum expectations of the parties and parties can gradually eschew the extraordinary measures that some power sharing practices entails and allow a more integrated and liberal form of democracy to evolve. Before the flag independence of 1960, there has been a sort of discourse on this issue, the root of which lies in the administrative federalism and eventual division of the country into Northern and Southern protectorates.

since the creation of Dunukofia LGA, Umudioka, Umunnachi, Nwagu has been marginalized in Dunukofia politics.

MY Question IS

Let’s follow his legacy, for the betterment of mankind.

Baraje:Saraki Withdrawed His Presidential Ambition In 2011 And 2015 For Jonathan And Buhari, Now Is Turn

i Abubakar Baraje, leader of the Reformed All Progressives Congress (R-APC), has expressed his support for the presidential ambition of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, should the latter officially declare.

Addressing journalists at the graduation ceremony of the Baraje Centre for Arabic and Islamic Studies in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, he expressed his intention to officially defect to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in “a few days”.

According to him, Saraki had nursed presidential ambitions in the past, particularly in 2011 and 2015, but had to step down for the candidature of former President Goodluck Jonathan and President Muhammadu Buhari, respectively.

His words: “Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has been trying his luck on being the President of this country since 2011. He withdrew for the then candidate Goodluck Jonathan. In 2015, he also withdrew for the present President Muhammadu Buhari. So for somebody who has been nursing that kind of ambition, is it not right for such person to come forward again?

“This present President came forward four times before clinching it. Did anybody ask whether he was right or wrong? Totally, I am in his support. Whatever Nigeria is looking for is in him and what we are looking for is only a candidate that will unite Nigeria, because with the current situation in the country, Nigeria is further divided and unless we get a candidate that will unite Nigeria, it is going to be a very serious jeopardy for this country.

“He has the right. The fact that he is the Senate President does not stop him from aspiring to become the president. Constitutionally, of course, I have not seen that a Senate President cannot aspire to become president. Being one of the strong supporters of the Senate President, this is the time I will show the entire world that I am solidly behind him. We have been supporting others, this is the time to support our own.”

Saraki :I Will Contest For President Against Buhari

Senate President Bukola Saraki says he has been “consulting and actively considering” running for President in 2019.

Saraki, who faces a battle to retain his position at the Senate following his defection to the opposition party, said this in an interview with Bloomberg held at his Abuja residence on Tuesday and published on Wednesday.

Asked by the paper if he was running, Saraki said: “I am consulting and actively considering it. I believe I can make the change.”

Saraki also spoke on the siege to the National Assembly by the Department of State Services (DSS), saying: “If a government can go and lock up an arm of government — and it’s never happened in our history — we should all be very concerned. We should not be surprised that they would use security agencies for elections.

“There has been a persistent disregard for due process and a lack of neutrality for some of these issues. For you to have credible elections, you must have safe elections. Security agencies are actively getting involved in the politics.”

“The fundamentals of whatever we are going to develop is going to be based on sound democracy, credible elections, freedom of choice of Nigerians. If we don’t have that as a foundation, then everything else cannot happen.”

Saraki also discussed a number of national issues. On the periodically-debated matter of fuel subsidies, he said: “If we are going to have a subsidy, we should have a budget for it — because once we have a budget for it, the private sector can also play a role in the importation of petroleum products.

“And if the private sector plays a role, definitely the cost of the subsidy will go down and there will be more efficiency in the delivery of products. But in the environment we are in today, where it’s only the Nigerian National Petroleum Corp. that’s doing that, it’s going to be inefficient, it’s not going to be transparent.”

On his return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), he said: “The PDP has learnt its lesson from the loss in 2015, and I think unfortunately the APC did not learn from their victory.

“While negotiating with the PDP, we listed a number of issues. We talked about how to sustain and improve the fight against corruption; the issue of providing more powers to the states; inclusion and having a more nationalistic approach on things we do; to continue to improve the environment that will ensure investments. We listed a number of items during the discussions with the PDP, and there is a written agreement to that. We trust that we can hold them to that.

“We would ensure that the party is strong on security. The APC too have not done well on the issue of security. We have the opportunity with the right kind of presidential candidate and president to provide the leadership for the party. The party has a good opportunity to lead the country in the right direction.”

Gov. Obiano’s Magic Wand : Anambra state, Now and Future-Obika Chidiebele Cy

The emergence of Gov Willie Obiano as the helmsman of Anambra State in March 2014 brought along with it several paradigm shifts.

Firstly, the governor unlike some of his predecessors, quickly availed Ndi Anambra his development agenda for the state. Some of which include: Security, Mechanized Agriculture, Health, Transportation, Infrastructural development amongst others.

Gov. Obiano, realizing the enormous need for adequate Security in the state, took it upon himself to create and maintain a working Security structure . A state which was formerly known as kidnappers den, suddenly, through his magic wand, retooled the state’s security architecture, convoked the Anambra Security Summit, later, South East and Delta Security Summit, and for the past four years and counting, Anambra has remained the SAFEST state in Nigeria.

As regards infrastructure, within the first three years of his first term in office, Gov. Willie Obiano had built what was thought as impossible in the state. The state Capital, Awka, which before now, does not in any way, resemble a state capital, came alive with three modern flyovers, street lights spreading across major roads and streets, Malls, new roads, among other infrastructures.

Before his administration, the Anambra Oil Rigs were not accessible by land through Aguleri Uno. It was usually a 3-hour journey through Ayamelum LGA to Umueje, then to Aguleri Otu, the host community of the oil wells. But today, Governor Obiano has through strong political WILL, constructed a bridge adjudged the longest in the South East, which measures about 280m crossing two major rivers of Omambala (Anambra River) and Ezu River to Aguleri Otu. The journey to the oil well is now less than 45 minutes from Awka, the State’s capital.

Obiano upon securing the mandate to govern Anambra state, realised that some vital institutions to drive his visions for the state, were not in place. Hence, he and his team swiftly swung into action, sent Executive bills to the Anambra State House of Assembly, some of which birthed: The Anambra Investment Promotion and Protection Agency (ANSIPPA), Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA), Anambra Materials Testing Laboratories, The Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OchaBrigade), The Anambra Traffic Management Agency (ATMA)and others.

Through the institutionalization of his administration’s governance, trust had been built between the state and her partners. The ANSIPPA have been rated the best in attracting Foreign Direct investment into a state in Nigeria. A one stop shop for Investments in Nigeria. The Agency entered into several Memoranda of Understanding with groups that amounted to about $5b in just 4.3years! These investments cuts across all sectors of human endeavors; Agriculture, Hospitality, Tourism, Health, Power Generation and several others.

The story of the state had since changed as Gov Willie Obiano who met an 80000 annual metric tons of Rice now produces about 355000 metric tons annually thereby, surpassing the yearly consumption rate of rice by Ndi Anambra to well over a 100000 metric tons. Anambra is today self sufficient in most of the staple foods consumed in the state.

Through the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority, the state now have an integrated Masterplan for the capital city. Some of the MoUs entered included the Development of Housing Estates around the capital City, ensuring the people build houses according to specification. Largely, these Agencies of government had helped the governor in perfecting his visions for the greater Anambra.

Away from these projects, in 2016, recession came to Nigeria and snowballed into high depths so that over thirty states could not pay salaries to her workers for as long as one year. But for Anambra, the story was different and better. As a frontline state, she had picked a date with nature -24th- of every month as ALERT DAY, from the day Gov. Willie Obiano came into office till today. Pensions and Gratuities are regularly paid. It is also on record that Anambra was the only solvent state during recession as nothing slowed down. Works remained ongoing, infact, it was during this time that the state introduced one of the best development policies- Community Choose A Project Initiative. By this initiative, the over 177 communities in the state are at will to choose a project that will be sponsored by the state amounting to about N20m per community. This policy took money and development down to all the towns in the state, and the operation light up Anambra Project which has covered well over 1000 km of streetlights cutting across all the Local governments in the state. The cummunity choose a project initiative is in its third phase now.

During the Anambra gubernatorial election of November 18th, 2017, the governor, Chief Willie Obiano and All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, pulled a flawless victory, winning all the local governments in the state. A victory nicknamed, “21/21”. Even the oppositions, accepted the election as free and fair and shelved going to court.

The victory had endeared Gov Obiano more to the people, that is why, when on March 17, 2018, he took oath of office as governor for a second term, made it very clear that ndi Anambra had entrusted him with everything. He observed that no time in the history of Nigeria had a governor won any election in such fashion. He pointed that he and his Team feel challenged to perform more than had been done. He promised to surpass his records.

Reading his inaugural address, Gov Obiano reminded ndi Anambra that his Pillars and Enablers of development had proved successful and would like to add to them “Creative Economy and Logistics”.

Obiano observed that over 75% of goods that land in Lagos State are owned by the Igbo. “About 50% of them end up in Anambra. So we need logistics to be able to manage these services to our people. We need ports, warehouses and others” he said.

By creative economy, the government meant “Thinking Outside The Box” as the best way to manage government. “We can not keep waiting for Federal Allocation which is meagre for us every month, we have got to explore other ways of bettering the lives of our people”, Obiano observed.

Today in his second Term, several milestone has been recorded. Removal of illegal structures and Shanties, restriction of commercial motorcycle riders to some towns which has brought Oderliness and with these, there is a sense of vision and direction in the state.

Anambra under the leadership of Gov Willie Obiano has bright future. Since his second term, he has been to two Anambra Investment Summits held in Illinois, USA and Vienna, Austria. These summits has seen the state net over $250m worth of investments. Several Road Projects and bridges are currently ongoing, Anambra is targeting a 24hour economy, we have remained the safest state in Nigeria and others.

Osinbajo Blasts His Fellow Nigeria Pastors For Not Preaching Against Corruption

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo has berated gospel preachers for failing to lend support to the Federal Government’s anti-corruption war by failing to preach against the scourge.

“Very rarely do you hear our preachers talk about corruption from their pulpits. If a nation is not righteous nothing will help it.” Osinbajo said that the problem with Nigeria was neither ethnicity nor religion but systemic corruption.

He said that corruption had been so entrenched in the country that if you dare challenge it, you will be in the minority.

He, however, challenged the youths to change the narrative and make the difference by checking the impunity of those that had stolen the resources of the country.

“Our problem in this country is not ethnicity or religion; it is not about Christians or Muslims. Our problems are the same wherever you go in this country.

Soyinka Accused Obasanjo For Awarding Oil BLOCKS For sexual gratification As A President.

Nobel laureate Prof. Wole Soyinka, calling former President Olusegun Obasanjo, a degenerate, liar, predator and sadist, has challenged him to swear whether he never awarded oil blocks in return for sexual gratification while he presided over the affairs of Nigeria. Soyinka and Obasanjo Soyinka spoke in his Interventions VIII series, titled: ‘Quis Custodiet Ipsos Custodes?’ meaning “Gani’s Unfinished Business,” launched recently in Lagos, Southwest Nigeria. He said Obasanjo knows him so well that he does not make accusations lightly and that he despises snide insinuations. “I now challenge you (Obasanjo) to search your soul, very deeply, and swear to this nation that you never awarded oil blocks in return for sexual gratification.

I do not make accusations lightly and I despise snide insinuations. I believe you know me well enough. And I am no prude, I am not a hypocrite of sexual desire, nor am I interested in the seamy side of Power. Take your time, think deeply and remember that each day brings you closer and closer to your Maker and the Day of Judgment-going by your own professions.” Soyinka said sex-for-grades as a solution to that burdensome energy seemed to have become the practice, saying that even when Donald Trump and Bill Clinton were accused of sexual misconduct, no one ever accused Trump of using his nation’s assets for a romp on the presidential desk of the oval office and that not even Clinton who nearly lost his office through Monica Lewinsky, was ever accused of passing off any of the White House heirlooms, or influenced contracts in return for sexual favour.

“If I denounce you (Obasanjo) as a degenerate in need of help, remember that I do not require fiction. Verifiable truth is solemnly at my disposal. I do not concoct a thousand snipers for a thousand listed enemies of governance-one of the most impudent egregious fantasies ever manufactured by a former ruler, simply to destroy a successor and persuade oneself that one is a maker and breaker of governments,” he said.

Soyinka also said that during Obasanjo’s celebration of the 10th anniversary of his Presidential library, the former president accused him of blocking his ambitions to become the Secretary General of the United Nations. According to Soyinka, “could someone please stop crediting me with that level of international clout? Of course, I feel totally content and fulfilled with my contribution to that operation to ‘save our world’ from the clutches of a predator, sadist and liar-convincing evidence of which we provided in our successful diplomatic offensive-but the umbrage should also go to that very Femi Falana and the late Beko Ransome-Kuti, with whom I worked in close collaboration.”

Soyinka also said that under Obasanjo’s watch, and with proven collaboration, an elected governor was kidnapped, locked in a toilet and held there under duress to force him to sign cheques on the state treasury, saying that “he escaped confinement, thanks to a sympathetic policeman , but the state went up in flames. The state radio and television houses were torched.

The House of Assembly and the law courts—my own special preserve-were vandalized. Who did you say was President at that time?” Soyinka made reference to a letter written to Obasanjo by Col. Abubakar Umar, in which the former military governor accused Obasanjo of awarding oil block indiscriminately and illegally.

We Will Amend Nigeria’s Constitution To Allow Buhari To Be President For The Remaining Years Of His Life -Gumau Yahaya

48-year-old Honourable Gumau Yahaya, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the Bauchi South Senatorial District bye-election taking place today, has said he plans to see to the amendment of the Constitution to ensure that President Muhammadu Buhari remains President for life.

Speaking during his campaign in Bauchi during the week, he said: “I, Lawal-Yahaya Gumau, want you to know that the mandate that will be given to me on Saturday is to go and protect Buhari’s interest in the Senate. This is the only mandate that I will be going to the Senate with, having fulfilled every other mandate to the best of my ability while in the House of Representatives for eight years.

“By God’s grace, we will amend Nigeria’s Constitution to allow Buhari to be President for the remaining years of his life. He will only cease to be President when God takes his life.

“Obasanjo tried all his best for the constitution to be amended to allow him go for a third term, but God didn’t approve of it because of its lack of sincerity. What is now needed in Nigeria is to protect Buhari’s interest and that is what we will do.”

Gumau is a graduate of the University of Maiduguri and currently represents Toro Federal Constituency of Bauchi State at the House of Representatives.

Saraki :Oshiomhole needs to be better educated about our parliamentary and Stop Crying

Response to Adams Oshiomhole

1. It is rather surprising that Mr. Adams Oshiomhole is behaving like a rain-beaten chicken, crying all over the place about Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, as if the Senate President is the apparition haunting his life and the sinking ship that he captains.

2. Having decided not to join the pigs in rolling in the dirt; we would not like to be involved in any meaningless exchange with the demagogue now in charge of APC. However, because he claimed that he was reacting to the issues raised by the Senate President during his World Press Conference, we thought it necessary to give the APC chairman some attention.

Alas, we found that instead of addressing any issue raised by the Senate President, his press conference merely showcased his obsession and those of his sponsors with Saraki’s removal, which he did without any decorum befitting of his age or his awarded office. He brimmed with hate, hurled abuses, threw tantrums, told lies, huffed, puffed. In the end, he said nothing.

3. It is indeed amazing that the same Oshiomhole, who is now describing Saraki as a politician of no consequence was the same one who only a few months ago was crawling all over the place pleading for Saraki’s support to become chairman. We are sure that those who took him to Saraki several times to plead his case must now be thoroughly embarrassed by his reckless and uncouth manner.

4. By his conduct and utterances, Oshiomhole, who accused Saraki of not acting in national interest needs to do more to convince Nigerians that his desperate desire to become party chairman is not simply to feed his over-sized ego.

5. The position of Oshomole and his cohorts in the APC that the Senate President must resign is a mere wishful thinking. They will continue to dream about their planned removal of the Senate President. They will need 73 Senators to lawfully remove Dr. Saraki and they will never get that in the present eight Senate.

6. The argument of APC that the Senate President must come from a majority party; that the Senate Presidency is their crown  and National Assembly is their palace is only supported by ignorance and dangerous delusion. First, the issue of which party is in the majority will only be resolved when the Senate resume. Two, Section 50 (1) (a) of the constitution is clear that any Senator can be elected as Senate President. If the only thing left of the APC change agenda is to change the Senate President we can only wish them goodluck.

7. Perhaps, Mr. Oshiomhole needs to be better educated about our parliamentary history when he Stated that “For the first time in parliamentary history in Nigeria, we had a situation where the APC had majority of Senators and went on to elect a PDP as Deputy Senate President”. Where is Mr. Oshiomhole when Senator John Wash Pam of the Nigerian People’s Party (NPP) became Deputy Senate President in the Second Republic even when the National Party of Nigeria (NPN) had the majority. The same thing happened in the House of Representatives when NPP’s Rt. Hon. Edwin Umeh Ezeoke was elected Speaker in an NPN majority House. But then, it would require a level of education to understand these things.

8. What hypocrisy! To think that this same APC were jubilating when Rt. Hon. Aminu Tambuwal retained his position after he defected from the PDP and still retained his seat, even when his new party was in the minority. These are people whose standards of morality are infinitely elastic.

9. We are sure the remaining APC Senators need to do a lot of work to bring Oshiomhole up to speed about parliamentary practice. His ignorance are too clear in his comments about how the Senate was adjourned on July 24, 2018, the distribution of committee chairmanship in the Senate and the difference between the post of Senate President and Minority Leader.

10. He has made so much song and dance about Mr. Godswill Akpabio resigning as Senate Minority Leader when he left the PDP to join APC. For this, Akpabio has become his hero and a symbol of honour. He obviously does not understand that the post of Minority Leader is a strictly party affair. And the PDP simply decided who to give it as it is not even a position that was mentioned in the constitution. Whereas, the Senate President position is a constitutional creation, which required majority votes of all the members. Again, we don’t expect people whose only experience in politics is at the provincial levels to understand this. No wonder they are talking of crowns and inheritance.

11. The fair distribution of the Committee chairmanship is one of the stabilizing factors in the 8th Senate and has helped it in achieving more than all its predecessors.

12. We need to inform this divisive element who now leads APC that if he wants to know why the 2018 budget was delayed, he should ask the heads of the MDAs.  We reckon that should be easy for him since he is now their ‘headmaster’, moving around with canes to whip ministers into line.

13. Oshiomhole once again demonstrated his lack of sense of history by talking of Buhari winning more votes in Kwara than Saraki. We are sure President Buhari himself will disagree with the APC chairman. We invite the APC chairman to look at the figures of votes secured by the President in 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2015 to know that the difference is clear, like a commercial advert stated.

14. We hereby assure this garrulous, tactless and reckless APC chairman that a million of Adams Oshiomhole cannot remove Saraki as Senate President. His illegal plots, can only feed his insatiable ego and keep him awake at nights. But it will remain an exercise in futility.

Oshiomole:Saraki Left APC Because President Muhammadu Buhari gave out over 200 juicy appointments without allocating some to him.

National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says Senate President Bukola Saraki’s real anger with the party is that President Muhammadu Buhari gave out over 200 juicy appointments without allocating some to him.

Oshiomhole said this in Abuja on Friday in response to Saraki’s ‘World Press Conference’ on Wednesday, during which the former Kwara Governor condemned the Federal Government’s assault on democracy and maintained that he would not quit the leadership of the upper chamber unless it is the will of two-thirds majority.

“When Saraki defected, he went to Ilorin to tell the people part of the truth that he was leaving for two reasons,” Oshiomhole said.

“He alleged that President Buhari gave out over 200 juicy appointments without allocating some to him and he chose to speak for the Speaker of the House of Representatives that he was also not given.

“My question is, giving Saraki the Senate President ‘juicy position’, does that coincide with the Nigerian project? Or the interest of the people of Kwara State of his Senatorial zone? At no time did he refer to the interest of the people of his constituency or the people of Nigeria.”

Oshiomhole said Saraki’s second reason for leaving the party was that he was being persecuted.

“That is, alleged persecution of his person and not his people,” he said.

“He never pretended that any of these actions had anything, to do with the people of Nigeria, but his person. I think the Governor of Kwara State was more explicit in corroborating his claim when he said that he as Governor and Saraki as Senate President were being linked to armed robbery cases.

“Again, that has nothing to do with the Nigerian project or the Kwara people. What is the truth? Who linked Senator Saraki to armed robbery? Was it the Federal Government or the arrested armed robbers? It is the armed robbers that alleged that the weapons with which they carried out the operation were procured for them by the Senate President. This is contained in the police report which is no longer a secret. He has not denied knowledge of these people. So if armed robbers linked the name of the Senate President, is the APC or the government to blame?

“A crime that led to the killing of about 35 persons cannot be dismissed with a wave of hand and in any jurisdiction, when your name is linked to such heinous crime, people don’t clap for you. It is the duty of the security agents to investigate and establish whether they are valid or invalid. So, if he was linked to armed robbery, that cannot be an offence of the government or the APC. The best defence I have heard is that the robbers said that he did not ask them to use the weapon for armed robbery.”

The best defence I have heard is that the robbers said that he did not ask them to use the weapon for armed robbery.”

He added that Saraki’s time in office is over, saying: “When I say that the Senate President will be impeached, let me emphasise that he will be impeached properly according to law. The constitution is clear how a presiding officer can be impeached and because several impeachments have taken place, we are not about to witness what has not taken place before.

“We have enough precedents to fall back on. I have looked at the constitution which does not say that an impeachment is illegal. It is done, you cannot arrive at the conclusion that it is unlawful. How can we be accused of planning an illegal impeachment when it has not commenced. If he thinks that by saying that, he will pre-empt the APC from having him impeached, he is deceiving himself. I think that the time of Saraki is over.

“The way he has manipulated the politics of Kwara state, he fails to understand that the Nigerian project is far more complicated than being at the mercy of his own dynasty. He will not only be impeached, we will work hard to have him defeated as a Senator in his own senatorial zone come 2019 by the people of Kwara State who are fed up with Saraki.

“Go and check the results of the elections that made him a senator and you will find out that the President got more votes from Kwara Central than Saraki got for himself. So, he can’t claim that the vote the APC got from his senatorial zone was because of him. That is why his leaving is of no political consequences as far as electoral issues are concerned. We tried to talk to him, not out of fear, but out of conviction that as a presiding officer, there are rules of engagement.”

Read the full Letter

I write to most respectfully apprise Your Excellency that on 7th August, 2018, at about 1314 hrs, following a petition letter No. OVP/SGF/7818/381 dated 7th August, 2018 from your esteemed office to investigate and report findings against Lawal Musa Daura, the sacked Director General, Department of State Security Services, a team of crack operatives headed by Commissioner of Police, CP Garba Baba Umar, were deployed to respond immediately and take the suspects into custody for interrogation and further investigations.

2. It was reported that on 7th August, 2018 at about 0600 hours, the then Director General of the Department of State Security Services, Mr. Lawal Musa Daura, did conspire with his operatives wearing hoods and masks, and invaded the National Assembly Complex. They barricaded the road to the National Assembly and were intimidating members of the National Assembly and staff by forcefully preventing them from performing their legitimate and constitutional duties, thereby committing a crime with intent to incite and whip up the sentiment of the National Assembly Members against the Federal Government of Nigeria, which is a breach of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, hence the complaint.

3. The principal suspect, Mr. Lawal Musa Daura, was formally arrested and interrogated in line with the allegation made against him.

4. Following the interrogation by our intelligence operatives, the
following facts emerged:-

i.      That on 7/8/2018, the suspect, Lawal Musa Daura, illegally used his position as the then Director General of the Department of State Security Services, conspired with his officers and men, who wore hoods and masks, and invaded the National Assembly Complex, thereby preventing and forcing the peaceful members and staff of the National Assembly from gaining access to the complex, without any element of crime committed or an invitation by the leadership of the National Assembly.

ii.     That the suspect, Mr. Lawal Musa Daura, in his statement confessed and accepted to have deployed operatives of the State SecurityServices on a claim of intelligence report, that unauthorised persons were planning to smuggle undisclosed dangerous weapons and incriminating items into the National Assembly Complex. He did not inform the Acting President neither did he share the information with the Nigeria Police Force or other sister security agencies.

iii.    That so many distinguished Senators, Honourable Members and staff of the National Assembly who wanted access to the National Assembly complex, suffered humiliation, intimidation, and were forcefully chased out of the Assembly Complex at gunpoint by operatives of the State Security Services wearing hoods and masks.

i.      On 7/8/2018, the State Security Services, invaded the National Assembly on the instructions of the then DG Department of State Services, Mr. Lawal Musa Daura.

ii.     It was also established that Senators, Honourable Members and staff of the National Assembly were prevented from entering the National Assembly Complex.

iii.    Those who invaded and prevented National Assembly members were officers of the State Security Services.

iv.     It was established that some of them were wearing hoods and masks to disguise their identities.

v.      The said officers of the Department of State Security Services were all bearing firearms and took strategic location at the National Assembly Complex to prevent access.

vi.     Members of the National Assembly were harassed, intimidated and their lives threatened.

vii.    The Department of State Security Services personnel acted like mercenaries, hired to carry out executions.

viii.   The former Director General, Department of State Security Services, Mr Lawal Musa Daura, acted unilaterally without informing the Presidency.

ix.     He did not share or intimate other security agencies on the unlawful operations.

x.      The claim of purported intelligence report by the suspect cannot be substantiated as the personnel deployed were not EOD experts or specialists in this regard.

i.      The operatives of the Department of State Security Services that invaded and barricaded the National Assembly Complex need to be released to the Police investigating team for questioning.

Sen Adeleke :university I attended did not need our qualification(WAEC) from here.

Adeleke said this in Ede on Thursday while reacting to the dismissal of the suit filed against his eligibility before Justice David Oladimeji of the Osun State High Court.

Adeleke, who was flanked by some of his mates at the Ede Muslim Grammar School, Ede said he was well known during his school days because he loved his schoolmates and loved sports.

The PDP candidate said he sat for a qualifying examination before he was given admission to the university.

He said, “We all went to school and we know that some results would not be released. But they may release the remaining results tomorrow. Who knows? After I sat for the exams, my mind was in the US.  The university I attended did not need our qualification from here. I say for their qualifying exam.”

He said he had been calling aspirants that contested with him for the PDP’s sole ticket and that he had held a meeting with Dr Akin Ogunbiyi in the presence of the National Chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus, and the national organising secretary of the party.

Adeleke said, “I chose to remain quiet since the conclusion of the governorship primary for two reasons; first it is my unchanged belief in party supremacy and utmost respect for the leadership of our great party.

“The second reason is because the issue of my qualification and eligibility as a governorship candidate has been a subject of litigation until yesterday. Now that a judicial pronouncement confirming my qualification and eligibility to contest has been made, the time is now right to speak on the matter.

“For the records, let me reiterate the obvious and easily verifiable fact that I attended the Ede Muslim Grammar School between 1979 and 1981, my schoolmates are everywhere, and some are even here with me. While in school, I was a lover of football, so I was very popular. I was elected the president of the alumni association of this same school until recently.”

He described those questioning his attendance at the school as “clearly being mischievous and deceptive.”

Adeleke added, “I also must express my gratitude to the judiciary for upholding the truth despite the pressure. It is now clear and proven that I did not forge any certificate or testimonial. In any case, how can I forge a testimonial that simply attests to the fact of my attendance at the school?”

Adeleke assured the people of the state of his determination to provide quality leadership and to rescue them from the ‘mess’ created by the present administration in the state.

Itse Sagay :I don’t bloody care whether Kemi Adeosun did youth service or not. It’s irrelevant as far as I am concerned

Professor Itse Sagay, Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC), says he doesn’t “bloody care” if Kemi Adeosun, Minister of Finance, underwent the mandatory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) or not.

Following an investigation by Premium Times exposing how Adeosun skipped the NYSC programme and forged an exemption certificate, there have been calls, which have been ignored, for President Muhammadu Buhari to sack the Minister.

However, in quotes reported by TheNation, Sagay said he would never remove her were he the President.

“I don’t know why the government has not reacted. But, let me tell you my reaction. This woman is a brilliant and extremely valuable member of this government.

“A lot of the good things happening now – the welfare that Nigerians are enjoying and are going to enjoy, because it takes time, and the way our economy is booming, how we got out of recession – are due to her expertise, her commitment, her sacrifice.

“There is nothing in this world that will make me remove such a woman from the government. The PDP can weep from now until there is no tear in their body; she is going to be there. We lcannot afford to lose that woman.”

Asked if it was not an offence to skip NYSC, Sagay said: “Who cares about youth service? I don’t bloody care whether she did youth service or not. It’s irrelevant as far as I am concerned.”

On the allegation that she forged an exemption certificate, he said: “I don’t believe it. I don’t see anything serious about not doing youth service. I don’t see anything serious about it. That’s my own bias, not government’s.

“I’m telling you now. If you ask me – If I were President Buhari, I would never, ever touch that woman because she’s damn good.

“The enemies of this government want to reduce his capacity to provide good governance by engaging in social media attacks and trying to get rid of her. It will not work.”
