News Update :Police In Adamawa Arrest Seven Christians Who Protested Against Herdsmen

The Adamawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of seven Christian youth involved in Wednesday’s protest that turned bloody in Yola, capital of the state.

Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Othma Abubakar, confirmed the arrest, saying the youth were apprehended during the protest, which was disallowed by the Police.

Speaking to Sahara Reporters exclusively at the Police headquarters, Othman Abubakar revealed that some miscreants hijacked the protest, which the Police earlier forbade from holding due to its potential for insecurity.

The PPRO said the miscreants who hijacked the protest vandalised property and destroyed some cars, causing tension and unrest, until the Police intervened.

“The chairman of CAN Adamawa State chapter wrote to the command requesting for this protest; security meeting was held and he was asked to see reasons why it was not going to be approved,” he said.

“Looking at the fact that Adamawa has been experiencing this kind of crisis, we thought it was not wise to go on this protest at this material time.

“But, still, the protest was carried and unfortunately some miscreants around tried to hijack the situation to use it for a different purpose.”

He said the Police had “arrested seven people in connection with the protest and they will be charged to court”.

SaharaReporters can confirm citing irate youth pulling down Governor Bindow’s campaign billboards in the heat of the protest.
