Rowdy Session:Assembly Members Engaged In Heavy Fight(Picture)

The struggle by factions of the Anambra State House of Assembly to take possession of the seat of the Speaker is currently causing a fight in the hallowed chambers.

Both factions of the House, led by their separate Speakers had arrived the State Assembly complex at about 10am in the morning, but could not sit for plenary because of the tussle over which of the two Speakers should preside over the meeting.

About 12 out of the 30 members of the House had three weeks ago impeached Speaker Rita Maduagwu, replacing her with Hon. Ikem Uzoezie. But Maduagwu had quickly denied being impeached, while the Uzoezie faction insisted she remained impeached.

This had led to the sealing of the House by police authorities to forestall any breach of peace.

But at about 10:30pm on Wednesday, police unsealed the complex ahead of Thursday sitting, but, both factions iwent nside to administer the House.

Maduagwu had first entered the hallowed chambers and sat on the Speaker’s seat, but later left when she found that only two of her supporters were present.

As about 2:30pm when she returned to preside over the House, Uzoezie had already taken the Speaker’s seat, refusing to give way for Maduagwu, causing a huge uproar in the House.

Two members, Hon Obinna Emenaka, and a pro Maduagwu lawmaker who recently suffered a vehicle accident, however, engaged a pro Uzoezie lawmaker, Romanus Obi, in a fight but members rallied round to stop the fight.

Emenaka who now uses crutches deployed them in the fight, but was quickly dispossessed of them by another Pro Uzoezie lawmaker, Onyebuchi Offor.

DAILY POST gathered that the bone of contention in the Assembly was the refusal of APGA to give tickets to most members of the House.

The Committee for the Protection of Peoples Mandate (CCPM) has approached a court to demand the 2015 and 2016 tax receipts of Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic party (PDP).

The group had made a request to the Executive Chairman, Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Abuja on November 16, citing Section 1(1) and (2) and Section 4(A) of the Freedom of Information Act.

Policeman Kicked As Customs Officers Gun Down Wife In Lagos

The family of Patience Oni has been thrown into mourning after she was allegedly killed by officers of the Nigeria Customs Service in the Badagry area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the Customs officers attached to the Seme Border Command, reportedly led by one Abu Yusuf, were trying to evacuate bags of smuggled rice found around the F. O. Filing Station in the Badagry area of the state on Tuesday, November 20, 2018.

Our correspondent learnt that the officers allegedly shot in the air to scare people away and to prevent the residents from disturbing the evacuation of the bags of smuggled rice.

It was gathered that Patience, who had gone to the market situated around the scene of the operation, was said to have been hit by a stray bullet allegedly fired by the officers.

The deceased’s husband, John Oni, said Patience, while struggling for life, gave a good Samaritan her phone to call him, adding that she was dead before he could get to the Badagry General Hospital.

The 45-year-old police inspector said, “A good Samaritan, who was at the scene of the incident, called to inform me that my wife had been shot. When I rushed to the scene, I was told that she was still alive and that the Customs officers had rushed her to the Badagry General Hospital. I am yet to recover from the shock of not meeting her alive when I got to the hospital.

“I learnt that the Customs officers were chasing after some smugglers carrying rice before they opened fire on some boys, who reportedly struggled with them. I was told that my wife was at the bus stop close to a filling station around the Badagry roundabout where she was hit by a stray bullet from the Customs officers’ guns.

“I want the government to help me fight for my right, because my late wife was my helper. I have four children who are still in school, and I don’t know how I will cope without her. My life is ruined.”

The deceased’s son, Liberty, said his mother was a pillar to the family, adding that the trigger-happy officers, who allegedly killed her, must be prosecuted.

The deceased’s elder sister, Ruth, 38, said Patience’s death was untimely, adding that the family wanted justice but did not know how to get it.

PUNCH Metro learnt that a bystander, Jimoh Aminu, 43, was also hit by the stray bullets allegedly fired by the customs officers during the operation but survived.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Chike Oti, said a team of Customs officers, while on an operation in the Badagry area of the state, fired indiscriminately and allegedly killed a bystander.

Oti said, “On Tuesday, November 20, 2018, around 1pm, a team of Nigeria Customs Service officers attached to the Seme Border Command, led by DSC Abu Yusuf, while on ‘Anti-Flying Operations’ at the Badagry roundabout by F.O. Filling Station along the Lagos/Badagry Expressway, allegedly fired indiscriminately in the area.

“Consequently, bullets hit two bystanders, identified as Patience Oni, 42, and Jimoh Aminu, 43. The injured victims were rushed to the Badagry General Hospital for treatment, where the former eventually died. The remains of the deceased were deposited in the hospital’s morgue for autopsy. Meanwhile, the seven Customs officers have been arrested and handed over to homicide detectives at the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department for thorough investigation.”

The Public Relations Officer, Seme Border Command, NCS, Saidu Abdullahi, said the death of Patience was unfortunate, adding that the officers, who were conducting an operation to evacuate smuggled rice, fired shots in the air to scare those preventing them from carrying out the operation.

Abdullahi said, “The command regrets the accident; we pray that the soul of the deceased rest in peace and hopes that the family is granted fortitude to bear the loss. Based on the incident report, the officers were carrying out their statutory duty. They found out that there were over 120 bags of rice in a warehouse around F. O. Filling Station. So, the officers went there to evacuate the rice and in the process of moving the evacuated items back to the station, they were waylaid by a mob.

“In order to get out, they fired some shots in the air, which unfortunately resulted in the death of that woman. The officers were shooting in the air to scare the crowd so that they could move the items. The woman who died that day was just an unfortunate victim; we were later informed that the team took her to the hospital where she died.”

Breaking News:Buhari Arrives In Borno For Post-Boko Haram Attack Visit

President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

The President is expected to attend the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Annual Conference holding in Maiduguri on Wednesday, and will declare the event open.

The event was originally scheduled

to take place in Benin, Edo State.

Buhari’s visit comes after a high-casualty attack by Boko Haram on the Army in Metele, Borno State, which resulted in the death of well over 100 soldiers.

Stay tuned for more details…….

Reps Probe $1bn Arms Procurement, Demand Release Of Dead Soldiers’ Names

The House of Representatives, on Tuesday, began investigation into the 1 billion dollar appropriated for procurement of arms and equipment in the fight against Boko Haram in the North East.

The lawmakers also demanded that the Nigerian Army should, after due consultations with families of soldiers killed in the Nov. 18, insurgents’ attack in Metele village in Borno, release all their names.

The resolution was sequel to a motion by Rep Chukwuka Onyema (PDP-Anambra) at the plenary presided over by Speaker Yakubu Dogara in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that President Muhammadu Buhari had approved the release of 1 billion dollars for the procurement of security equipment to be used in the fight against Boko Haram insurgents.

Moving the motion, Onyema, who is the Deputy Minority Leader, noted that many Nigerian soldiers of the 157 battalion were massacred by Boko Haram insurgents, who now called themselves Islamic State West Africa, in Metele in Borno State.

According to him, the initial figures of the casualty put the death toll at 44 but as more details emerged, it is now confirmed that many more soldiers and officers were killed together with their commanding officer, Lt. Col. Ibrahim Sakaba, while others are still missing.

“The House notes that according to reports, the insurgents carted away large consignment of weapons from the Melete army base which security experts say would embolden them and pose great danger.

“The House observed that while the news of the attack and death toll continued to increase, neither the President nor the Minister of Defense or the army authorities said anything about the report as there was silence for more than five days.

“The House notes that the President and C-In-C finally broke his silence six days after the attack in a statement issued on his behalf,” he said.

The lawmaker said it was unfortunate that in the last one year, no fewer than 600 Nigerian soldiers were killed by insurgents, mostly in Borno State around the fringes of the Lake Chad.

He enumerated instances of attacks launched by Boko Haram against Nigerian soldiers within the year under review.

Onyema, who expressed regret that while the executive continued to insist that the insurgents had been technically defeated, he said they seemed to be waxing stronger on a daily basis.

“The House recalls that twice in three years, the Commander-In-Chief gave directives to service chiefs to permanently relocate to the Theatre Command Centre in Maiduguri until Boko Haram is defeated,” he said.

He said it was disheartening that with the recent happenings in the North, all the successes and gains made against the insurgents had been reversed.

Contributing, Rep Nnenna Ukeje (PDP-Abia) said it was high time Nigeria began to change tactics in order to checkmate the audacity of the insurgents.
She urged the Federal Government to take a cue from Pakistan and review the curriculum of its military.

Rep Aminu Shagari (PDP-Sokoto), who queried how the recently appropriated money was used, described the attack as sad.

Rep Beni Lar (PDP-Plateau) called for the sack of the service chiefs.

On his part, Rep Idris Ease (APC-Plateau) called on the House to treat the matter dispassionately and not to be affected by political sentiment.

Rep Rimande Shawulu (PDP-Taraba) recalled that last year, there were reports that about 6, 000 members of the Islamic State in Syria (ISIS) found their ways to the sub-Saharan Africa.

According to him, some of the things we are seeing now are not unexpected.
He argued that the porous nature of the country’s borders was another challenge.

Shawulu, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Army, however said that there was the need for the security agencies to account for the funds appropriated to them.

Other lawmakers who contributed in the Senate include Reps Johnson Agbonayinma, Stephanus Gyang, Aminu Shagari, Edward Pwajok, Zakari Mohammed, among others.

The Speaker, Mr Dogara, after over an hour deliberation on the motion, described the development as an eye-opener.

He said it was time the leadership in the country began to take responsibility and not to apportion blame.

When the motion was out on a voice vote by the speaker, the lawmakers unanimously adopted it.

An ad hoc committee to investigate all funds appropriated for utilisation by the Armed Forces for the fight against insurgency was set up by the House.

The committee was also charged to look into the operational lapses that led to the killings of the soldiers.

Emir Of Ilorin Vowed To Step-Down From The Throne If Buhari Win Kwara

The Emir Of Ilorin Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Zulu Gambari on Friday in a shocking but revealing engagement threw is weight behind the earlier endorsement of the candidacy of Barr. Razak Atunwa,

the Peoples Democratic Party gubernatorial candidate of Kwara State in the fast approaching 2019 elections, according to the Ilorin Emirate Council at the Juma’at service held at Ilorin Central mosque last Friday.

The Emir who expressed is long annoyance to the way the Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki was treated while in the All Progressive Congress, a party which Saraki sacrificed life and limb to see to victory in the 2015 general election, said he would not let the injustice consume the embattled Senate President.

The Emir said the issue of Saraki becoming the Senate President, if well handled, could have brought ease in the running of Buhari-led administration. He further admitted that the ridiculous performance of the Buhari-led administration cannot be unconnected to the rift between the ruling party and the 8th Senate led by Sen. Bukola Saraki.

The Emir who said the good governance Kwara is enjoying is because of the genuine love Saraki dynasty have displayed to Kwaran and said: “even as we speak, good and potable water is available for Kwarans, all thanks to Governor AbdulFatai Ahmed leadership and many more.”

He also added that the Buhari-led administration lacks the principle of royal dialogue and has brought the Emirate Council to a point where, if not for Saraki, he would have been in shame over the way investigation into the Jebba contract awarded was handled as it attack his person and the institution he represents.

The Emir emphatically said “I believe in our Son” and wherever Saraki decides will be where Kwarans will go and if Buhari won in Kwara or gather even thirty percent of the total votes come 2019, he would step down and find respite in exile as he believes the good people of Kwara would do all it takes to vote against the second coming of Muhammadu Buhari and protect the Emirate as an institution of authority and advocate of good governance.

Recall that the Emir is one of the machinery that was employed to engineer the downfall of the former Governor of Kwara State, Muhammed Lawal of the blessed memory.

He has, on many occasions, declared is unwavering support for the dynasty even when such loyalty keeps it out of step with his subjects.

It has also been occasionally rumored that the so many government contracts handled by the Emir were earmarked to him as a reward of his continuous support for the dynasty.

Some people in different quarters of the state have described the Emirate outrage as a “shallow threat,” It, however, remains to be seen whether the Emir would fulfill his threat of going into exile after Saraki’s loss.

ABOMINATION :NNEWI WOODEN CORPSE: NWOSU FAMILY MAY DRAG DAUGHTER TO COURT

The family of  Ikechukwu Nwosu in Obiuno Otolo Nnewi in Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State, is ready to challenge one of their daughters, Mrs Chinwe Chukwudolue, in the court of law, following public embarrassment she caused the family at the burial of their son, late Mr Sunday Nwosu, who was buried on Saturday, November 24.

Mrs Chukwudolue, during the burial of her elder brother, Sunday Nwosu, on Saturday, opened the casket and shouted to the wider world that what was put into the casket was not the body of her late brother, Sunday, but a wooden image.

The story and video of the dramatic funeral went viral, causing untold embarrassment to the family.

Somto Chidera, a nephew to Mrs Chukwudolue, told Anaedooline that the embarrassment will cost the woman dearly, both physically and spiritually; adding that the family may contemplate dragging her to court for alleged defamation of character.

He said the body of his uncle, Sunday Nwosu, was in the mortuary of the Diocesan Hospital, Nnewi, close to three years; stressing that no corpse will remain in the mortuary for such long period without changing form.

He said further: “Two weeks before the burial, my father gave her invitation card for the burial ceremony. She did not care to come and know how preparations were going; neither did she call on the phone.

“This wicked woman did not contribute any kobo for the burial ceremony of her brother or give help in any form.

“On the day of the burial ceremony, she didn’t go to the mortuary to accompany my father to bring the corpse of her brother, Sunday Nwosu. My family paid N399,720 as the mortuary fee at Akwudo Hospital Mortuary, Nnewi.

“During the time the coffin was opened, this wicked woman went straight to it, tore the coffin and started shouting; shaking the coffin and lifting the corpse, saying that my daddy craved a wooden image, and said it was his brother. We wanted to act but people told us to leave her so that the burial would go without hitches”.

A Former Spokesman Of The PDP,Olisa Metuh,Has Cried Out , Accused EFCC Of Freezing Accounts .

A former spokesman of the PDP, Olisa Metuh, has cried out, accusing the EFCC of freezing all his accounts.

Chief Olisa Metuh, a former National Publicity of the Peoples Democratic Party, told the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had on Monday frozen all his bank accounts, Punch Metro reports.

Metuh, who expressed shock over the development, said he learnt of the no-debit order placed on his account after his failed transaction on one of the accounts on Tuesday.

He told the court presided over by Justice Okon Abang that as a result of the development, he could no longer feed his family or buy things as common as water and pain-relieving medicine like Panadol.

Metuh was testifying in his trial as a defence witness when he digressed into making the comments about his frozen accounts on Tuesday.

The ex-spokesperson for the PDP said, “The EFCC seized my accounts yesterday night and I can’t get money to feed my family

“I am in total shock as I am here talking to you. I don’t even know what to say.

“They seized all my accounts in every bank in this country. As I am don’t have money to buy Panadol or water to drink.”

The ex-spokesperson noted that the freezing of his accounts had to do with his ongoing trial on the charges bordering on the N400m he allegedly received fraudulently from the Office of the National Security Adviser in 2014.

He, however, wondered why the EFCC having earlier seized his assets with the Asset and Resource Management Company Limited and his funds in other banks took the fresh step which he said had denied him access to his funds worth more than the amount at stake in the ongoing trial.

He said, “They have alleged in this case that N400m was stolen. Why would they not limit it to that amount? I don’t know how I am going to feed my family? I don’t have access to any money at all. I am ready to end this case and submit myself to the judgment of this court.”

His lawyer, Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu (SAN), said he had no objection to what his client was saying except the part where he spoke about ending the case.

But the judge, Justice Abang said the issue was not part of the case before him.

He advised the defendant to ask his lawyer to discuss the issue with the prosecuting counsel, Mr. Sylvanus Tahir, who was present in court.

Earlier, Metuh had tendered the print-outs of some news reports of news conferences he organised as the spokesperson of the PDP in July 2015.

He had said the news conferences which were critical of the All Progressives Congress and the President Muhammadu Buhari administration earned him threats and eventually his arrest and subsequent prosecution.

The EFCC is prosecuting Metuh and his Destra Investments Limited, on seven counts of money laundering and fraudulent receipt of N400m from the Office of the NSA on November 22, 2014, for the PDP’s campaign activities.

Britain Set To Return Looted Benin Bronzes To Nigeria After Over 100 Years

Some of the bronzes looted from the Benin Empire by British Soldiers over 100 years will be returned to Nigeria, but with certain terms and conditions, CNN is reporting.

According to CNN, the Benin Dialogue Group (BDG), which comprises of representatives of several European museums, the Royal Court of Benin, Edo State Government, and Nigeria’s National Commission for Museums and Monuments, struck a deal in October to have “some of the most iconic pieces” return to Nigeria for an exhibition at the new Benin Royal Museum in Edo State within three years.

The return of the artefacts is contingent on the completion of the Royal Museum of Benin, whose designs, according to spokesperson to Governor Godwin Obaseki, Crusoe Osagie, are being finalised.

“We are grateful these steps are being taken but we hope they are only the first steps. If you have stolen property, you have to give it back,” Osagie said.

Osagie also called for more pressure on European governments to return looted artefacts from the colonial era.

A spokesperson for the British Museum, according to CNN, said:-

“The key agenda item (at the October meeting) was how partners can work together to establish a museum in Benin City with a rotation of Benin works of art from a consortium of European museums.

The museums in attendance have all agreed to lend artefacts to the Benin Royal Museum on a rotating basis, to provide advice as requested on building and exhibition design, and to cooperate with the Nigerian partners in developing training, funding, and a legal framework for the display in a new planned museum.

Breaking News:Buhari Approved Increase In Salaries Of Policemen

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the increase in the salary of the Nigeria Police Force.

He made the announcement during a meeting with security chiefs on Monday in Abuja.

According to a statement by Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President (Media and Publicity), Buhari said his administration will continue to give attention to the welfare and operational needs of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) with a view to restoring its lost primacy in the internal security framework of the country.

Speaking during an audience in State House, Abuja with members of the Nigeria Police Service Commission and the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force on a ‘Thank You’ visit following his approval of Rank Salary Structure Adjustment, which will see an increase in the allowances and pension of policemen, Buhari expressed regrets that the shortcomings of the Police in their constitutional role as the frontline force in the prevention of crime had led to military involvement in the maintenance of law and order throughout the country.

His words: “From Taraba to Sokoto, to the South-South, people don’t feel secure until they see the military. I am pleased to make the increase in salary and allowances in the hope that it will increase the performance index of the police and strengthen Nigeria’s internal security system.”

Noting that the more efficient the police is, the more confident the government and citizens will be, he said: “The military should be reserved for higher tasks. The police should be able to cope well with the challenges of armed robbery, kidnapping for ransom and such crimes. In every town and village, there is the presence of the police. From all these places, they should be able to forward first class intelligence to you on which to act.

“There is a need to amplify the question of more men of the police, especially given the condition we are in – emergency in the North-East, pervasive insecurity and abduction for ransom and banditry in many parts of the country. I congratulate you on the success you recorded against criminals taxing people and stopping them from their farms. We are expecting more from you,” the President told the police.

Full-time Commissioner in the Nigeria Police Service Commission, Justice Clara Ogunbiyi (rtd), who represented the chairman, Musiliu Smith, informed the President that the Rank Salary Structure Adjustment would enhance police welfare and morale.

The Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, also assured that the police would redouble efforts to ensure free, fair and credible elections throughout the country next year.

JUSTICE4ENEH:Anambra Online Media Coalition Demand Justice For Victim Of Midnight Abduction, Torture.

A coalition of online media advocates for good governance, accountability and responsible governance in Anambra State have pressed on the Inspector General of Police, Idris Kpotum to intervene in the ongoing investigation of the abduction and torture of a social advocate, Eneh Victor Chigozie by agents of a House of Representatives candidate on the platform of the for Anambra East/West federal constituency in the coming general elections.

The candidate, Chinedu Obidigwe had earlier this month masterminded the kidnap of Eneh for reasons which may include the publication of the outcome of an covert investigation on the authenticity of His claims to possessing a university degree as well as other matters some of which bother on age falsification.

The group of abductors including one Dominic Okagbue and an aide to Anambra State Governor, George Udedibia had also taken part in the torture of the blogger at the residence of Obidigwe before releasing Him to some policmen who are currently undergoing interrogation over their role in the nefarious act.

Below is a text of the communique issued by the coalition:

A COMMUNIQUE ISSUED BY THE COALITION OF ANAMBRA ONLINE MEDIA COMMUNITY ON MONDAY, 26TH NOVEMBER 2018 CALLING ON THE INSPECTOR GENERAL OF POLICE (IGP) IBRAHIM IDRIS KPOTUN TO ENSURE THAT JUSTICE IS DONE TO CITIZEN ENEH VICTOR CHIGOZIE WHO WAS ALLEGEDLY ABDUCTED WITH THE AID OF MEN OF THE ANAMBRA STATE POLICE COMMAND AND DEHUMANIZED BY A CERTAIN CHINEDU BENJAMIN OBIDIGWE, A PRIVATE CITIZEN AND FORMER AIDE OF GOV. WILLIE OBIANO.

1. Upon the disturbing news of what appears more like an abduction (in the guise of arrest) and subsequent dehumanization of one of us, Citizen Eneh Victor Chigozie, deeply concerned social media influencers met at De Geogold Hotel Awka on Sunday 18/11/2018 under the auspices of Anambra Online Media Community to deliberate on emerging reports on the incident at the time; especially the angle suggestive of a breach of Citizen Eneh’s fundamental rights and procedures of arrest as embedded in our extant laws.

2. In order not to rely on hearsay, the Community painstakingly got in touch with Citizen Eneh while the meeting was ongoing and got firsthand briefing of the very disheartening and condemnable dehumanization that he was subjected to by his abductors who, going by his account, apparently must have colluded with a particular unit of the Anambra state Police Command to facilitate his abduction from his native Enugu state (without the knowledge of the Enugu State Police Command) at a very ungodly hour; from where he was allegedly bundled to the Aguleri country home of his tormentor-in-chief, whom he identified as a certain Chinedu Benjamin Obidigwe – a former aide of Gov. Willie Obiano and now the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate for Anambra East and West federal constituency in the forthcoming general election.

3. In his conversation with us, Citizen Eneh, among other chilling revelations, narrated how he was handcuffed like a common criminal (that he is not) and compelled to sit helplessly on the floor of his tormentor-in-chief’s Aguleri home while he, Obidigwe; his media aide, one Dominic Okagbue and a host of others he personally recognized, descended on him with horsewhip and hard objects and in the process, inflicted grave bodily harm on his person. As if those were not enough, Citizen Eneh further alleged that he was bitten severally on his earlobe and other parts of the body leaving scars and wounds that have defied treatment and continue to fester.

This file shows CHinedu Obidigwe (M). Obidigwe is suspected to have indulged in thuggery and violent crimes across Anambra State. Recently, He led a gang of bandits to invade the Anambra State House of Assembly with an intention to reinstate the immediate past speaker who was impeached by a clear majority of members in the gestapo like operation. Photo Credit: Dominic Okagbue

4. Suffice it to say that Citizen Eneh’s account would have sounded stranger than fiction but for the timely emergence on social media of a leaked photograph of the victim in handcuff sitting dejectedly on the bare floor of a sitting room believed to be that of Obidigwe, as alleged, a day after the incident. Upon careful observation of the photograph, it was evident that Citizen Eneh couldn’t have snapped himself in the dehumanizing position he found himself at that moment; hence the conclusion that the shot was taken and released on the orders of his tormentor-in-chief. This gives credence to Citizen Eneh’s unequivocal revelation that it was Obidigwe’s media aide, one Dominic Okagbue that took the photograph and must have gone ahead to release it on his order to further expose his person to public ridicule.

5. In the light of the foregoing and considering that there has not been any formal rebuttal of the grievous allegations levied against Chinedu Obidigwe by Citizen Eneh, either by himself or his official media handlers, we, the under-listed members of Anambra Online Media Community of different political persuasions do observe/resolve as follows:

a. We suspect that those genuinely miffed by the bizarre revelations of the dehumanization of Citizen Eneh Victor Chigozie are not seized of the content of the said petition by Chinedu Obidigwe against the former. The issue on the front burner at the moment is therefore not whether Citizen Eneh Victor Chigozie has maligned his person or not. The courts are there to determine that or otherwise on the strength of the said petition when the matter gets to that curve.

b. We condemn in the strongest of terms, concerted efforts to muddle up issues and rights’ breaches thrown up by the apparent abduction of Citizen Eneh Victor Chigozie; which we have meticulously observed is what many defenders of Chinedu Obidigwe are trying to do in an apparent attempt to diminish the deluge of angst that has continued to trail the abduction, dehumanization and subsequent release on bail of the renowned social media influencer.

c. We strongly suspect, until proven otherwise, that the police officers who were part of the abduction had no warrant of arrest to do so and, from available information, did not incident the arrest cum abduction of Citizen Eneh at any police station in Enugu state before allegedly bundling him to Aguleri. Consequently, we strongly call for the immediate arrest of all involved in the saga and their subsequent prosecution if found culpable in any form.

d. Except there are criminal angles in the alleged petition that Obidigwe was reported to have forwarded to the DSS against Citizen Eneh Victor Chigozie which the public is unaware of, such civil matters should not warrant the use of state connections and powers to abduct, illegally detain (even for one minute) and dehumanize a fellow citizen. We not only expressly condemn the primitive resort to self-help in the strongest terms but also consider Obidigwe’s alleged conduct as both inimical to lawful coexistence and an affront to our extant laws that must not go unpunished if established to be so.

e. Let it be clearly understood that we are not in any way advocating that redress should not be sought by parties who felt sufficiently maligned by the pennings’ or submissions of their critics, either on r egular or new media. That said, it is pertinent to reiterate in the circumstances that, for us as an entity, our concern in the saga is limited to the redress. We find it unbelievable, reprehensible and unacceptable that rather than the police taking Citizen Eneh Victor Chigozie from the point of arrest cum abduction to the police station, they instead bullied and drove him to the said Obidigwe’s Aguleri country home where he was allegedly molested and dehumanized by Obidigwe himself and others he has mentioned

CONCLUSION

Based on the foregoing, we strongly call on the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris Kpotun to, as a matter of urgency and to promptly restore public confidence in the ability of the Police Force to be fair to all citizens until proven guilty, to:

1. Promptly transfer this matter away from the Anambra State Police Command which, from the narrative so far, appear to be complicit in the molestation / dehumanization of Citizen Eneh Victor Chigozie.

2. Cause proper and unbiased investigation into the incident with a view to establishing the level of culpability or otherwise of all parties involved in the alleged abduction.

3. Prosecute without delay or bottlenecks, those found culpable in the alleged wanton violation of Citizen Eneh Victor Chigozie’s rights.

JUSTICE4ENEH: CHINEDU OBIDIGWE AS CHAIRMAN, 2018 NUJ PRESS WEEK.

“Wither Moral Conscience.”

Et tu, Brute? is a Latin phrase meaning “even you Brutus?” It is notable for its occurrence in William Shakespeare’s play Julius Caesar, where it is spoken by the Roman dictator Julius Caesar to his friend Marcus Junius Brutus at the moment of Caesar’s assassination. Wikipedia.

Same scenario applies in Anambra State today, when “Moral Conscience” with a pained eye, have stared the leadership of NUJ in the face, and with quivering lips “Et tu NUJ?”

It is not wrongful to expect a renowned assemblage of reputable journalists in Anambra State, towards their 2018 Press Week; but to have Chinedu Obidigwe as the Chairman of that event, falls short of all intelligent expectations and moral rectitude on the part of the organisers and the Event proper.

In a letter headed paper, dated 1 Nov. 2018, with ref. No NUJ/AN/COR/3/60, and signed by the NUJ Chairman and Secretary respectively, inviting the Aguleri alleged thug to chair an intellectual gathering, on the Theme; Party Politics, Hate Speech and the Media; Should be likened to inviting a “military dictator, to chair a lecture on building the tenets of democracy!”

Such an invite, has not only succeeded in making mockery of the Event Theme, and the discussions, but has thrown more light on the intellectual deficiencies and moral bankruptcy of the organisers.

Just recently, it was the National Association of Nigerian Student, NANS, taking the role of media assistants of Chinedu Obidigwe, to champion his fading popularity, at the height of the Eneh abduction saga; Now NUJ has given us the impression that ‘although the pen can be mightier than the sword, a cheque booklet is the mightiest of them all!
“There was a bug called Cash and Carry.”

How can any reasonable and intelligent conscious mind, sit for hours and hear Chinedu Obidigwe rail against hate speech as an impediment to a successful free and fair 2019 general elections? Is Chinedu Obidigwe not ladened with guilt? in making hate speech against his real or imagined political foes? The same person Who openly led an evil Protest with some ignorant and jobless people, to malign and abuse a former Governor of the State, HE Peter Obi? and his media mafians /warriors /foot soldiers are devotedly damaging any eminent personalities who are opposition and perceived political rivals?

How can NUJ, after long considerations and suggestions from different quarters, settled with the very Controversial man, as it’s Chairman for the 2018 Press Week, to discuss hate speech and how it effects democracy?

It would have been quite understandable, if Chinedu Obidigwe had been made to Chair any of the NUJ’s launching occasion, where Naira can rain freely, that which is typical of our public officials, Our moral antenna wouldn’t have been so buzzing with apprehensions, than having him to Chair an Event of such an intellectual proportion.
“The bull finally succeeded in making itself into a China shop.”

What has he got to offer the public on telling them to discard hate speech and embrace good sportsmanship during elections? How can his recent abduction case with a media personality, Mr Victor Eneh, sit well within his stony heart, as he opens his Chairman’s remark on that occasion?

NUJ Anambra State chapter has failed in its professionalism, in ensuring that sound Characters, are brought to enlighten and educate appropriately, in their 2018 Press Week.

Nigeria Institute of Public Relations, NIPR, should as a matter of fact, be relied on to provide the needed professional journalistic charisma for our teeming young journalists. They should take the lead in informing and enlightening the general public on sensitive issues, bothering on humanity and morality like Genetic Education and Compatibility before marriage which NUJ relegated to the background for online bloggers. They should also help in investigating and drawing the attentions of all authorities to Signing the Sickle Cell Bill into Law as a matter of Urgency, Since there is no money to facilitate the sponsorship of that Bill.

Social Media is another rich pool, where information and educative submissions can be arrayed for public consumptions. But more is need to properly sanitize and regulate it’s functions to guard against abuses of different source.

And to the invitees of NUJ 2018 Press Week, Chaired by Chinedu Obidigwe, I humbly advice that people find more meaningful activities for their precious time.

“The pen still is the mightiest”
