The Anambra State police command has announced the unsealing of the State house of Assembly complex in Awka.
The complex was sealed fortnight ago over controversy arising from the impeachment of the former speaker of the house.
Police had earlier said its option of sealing the complex was to forestall breakdown of peace in the state by any faction of the assembly.
Last week, the factional speaker of the assembly, Hon Ikem Uzoezie and members loyal to his faction were stopped from accessing the complex.
But announcing the unsealing of the complex at about 11pm on Wednesday, SP Haruna Mohammed, PPRO Anambra State Police Command, speaking for the Commissioner, said it unsealed the assembly on the request of the leadership of the house.
He, however, did not state which faction had made the call.
The Police statement reads: “The Anambra State Police Command wishes to inform the Public that today 28/11/2018 the Command has received a letter from the leadership of the Anambra State House of Assembly requesting the Command to unseal the Assembly Complex for legislative duties.
“It would be recalled that on the 15/11/2018 same leadership of the House requested the Command to seal the Assembly Complex in order to prevent break down of law and order.
“Consequently, the Commissioner of Police, CP Garba Baba Umar has ordered for the Assembly Complex to be unsealed with immediate effect.
“Meanwhile, adequate security is being provided around the complex to provide safety and security in the area, please.
