Anambra Investment Portfolio Increases by $100m worth of Investment. By Obika Chidiebele

“I know we worked hard in my first term but we will work harder in this second term” ~ Gov Willie Obiano, March 17, 2018.

The driving force of Gov Willie Obiano’s vision stems from his unequalled propensity to aggressively develop Anambra state and make her an investor’s haven.

This zeal could be observed from his approach to security and returns on investments, the key question for every potential investor. Anambra, almost the second smallest state in Nigeria (landmass size) has the highest concentration of genuine billionaires in Africa (over 200); the highest concentration of private jet owners and houses. It has the biggest market in West Africa, with over five million people living and working in the state.

The State’s Nnewi industrial cluster manufactures a whole lot of products from motorcycles and spare parts to House Hold utensils. The Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Coy whie has purchase order from the Nigerian military for army trucks is considered the first Indigenous vehicle manufacturing company in Africa.

Anambra has the people, the market and most importantly, security, which ensures proper returns on investments.

The golden touch Anambra receives under the leadership of Gov Willie Obiano, had nudged the state ahead in several indices: Safest State in the Nation, 3rd biggest Economy in Nigeria with consistent growth in GDP, Massive Infrastructures and institutionalization of governance among others.

It is no longer news that there is today the Anambra Investment Promotion and Protection Agency, ANSIPPA.

This one-stop shop for investment is the first of its kind in Nigeria. Through this Agency, the government enters into partnership with willing investors and this arrangement has seen Anambra net about $4.5b worth of investments.

Through these partnerships, Anambra has become the most beautiful bride in the investment circuit in Nigeria. These investments span across all the sectors of the economy (Agriculture, Oil and Gas, Housing, environment and others). It suffices to add that Anambra state under Gov Willie Obiano is close toself sufficiency in staple foods; Rice, Casava, Vegetables, Tomatoes and other industrial goods like Sorghum for beer production.

Anambra’s stable economy was evidenced during the recession period in Nigeria. Anambra state was among the few states in Nigeria, that remained solvent through the crushing and depressing periods of the recession.

It was during this period that the state adopted the Community Choose A Project Initiative. Through this program, all the 177 communities and 65 major markets in the state received N20m each to build any project according to their need.

The regular payment of workers salaries, pensions and gratuities remained one of the masterstrokes that sustained circulation of money within the state which helped check the biting recession.
Gov Willie Obiano rode to electoral victory at the November 18th 2017 guber polls where he won in all the local government areas in the state, an indication that his strides in all the sectors of governance have been felt across the State. Gov Willie Obiano, being mindful of the trust ndi Anambra have in him, has continued exploring ways of attracting investments into the state.

His recent Anambra State Investment Summit held at Chicago Illinois, USA, was a testament to this.

Chief Obiano practically took his “Aku Luo Uno” message to ndi Anambra in America and other interested investors. This summit which held from 23rd through 24th of April, 2018, saw a clear down-to-top approach whereby the state contingent led by His Excellency, Dr Willie Obiano with (Mr Primus Odili – Chief of Staff, Mr Mark Okoye – Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mac Atasia – Chairman, ANETT, Mr Jide – CEO of ANSIPPA), and the facilitators; Vincent Izuegbu PhD, Dr Anthony Emeka Ibekie and Hon U.S Aniukwu had a successful summit. The Team visited the Monsanto Agronomy Centre where a class was held with talks on Maize, Soya bean and Sugar cane; its duration, varieties, pests and benefits. Questions were asked and answered; the team sought to know the compatibility of America’s species with the Nigerian soil, weather, output and protein yield.

The summit rose with an estimated investment plan worth of over $100m from Bill Sample, Travel Chips, Monsanto Centre USA. These arrangements facilitated by ndi Anambra in Chicago Illinois, have the capacity of making Anambra self sufficient in large scale maize, soya bean, cat fish and tilapia productions and processing.

Currently, Anambra ranks tops in foreign direct investments by states in Nigeria. The investors in the coming months are expected to finalise their memorandum of Understanding and launch into the field.

Breaking News :Obaseki slashes C-of-O processing fee to N50,000.

In what real estate operators and business owners have described as a major turnaround for ease of doing business in the state, the Edo State Governor, Mr.

Godwin Obaseki has slashed to a minimum of N50,000 the cost for processing Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O), assuring a 30-day turnaround for processing land titles.

Obaseki Obaseki, who disclosed this during an inspection of ongoing work at the Edo Geographic Information Service (EDOGIS) office in Benin City, said that the development is made possible as a result of the deployment of Geographic Information Service (GIS) technology by the state government in processing land titles. According to him, “We are drastically reducing the cost of obtaining C-of-O. The minimum will be N50, 000. That means that we have come down drastically from the current rate of about N300,000 to slightly about N50, 000.” He explained, “Our hope is that Edo will be one of the foremost states in Nigeria where you can come in, buy land and within 30 days, you have all the documents and titles to the land. If you want to sell, we will ensure that granting of approvals such as building approvals follow the same speed. “What that will do is that investors will find out that it is much easier to do business in Edo because of the speed at which we can register titles and the speed at which people can obtain licences.” Obaseki said the state government would not relent in providing a conducive working environment for workers in the state, adding, “The idea is to improve the work experience of public officers and public servants. Their offices should be more comfortable than their homes so that they can spend more time at work and be more productive.”

He urged staff of the agency to imbibe the culture of maintaining facilities, noting that “maintenance is key to keeping the standard.”

The Managing Director, EDOGIS, Arch. Frank Evbuomwan explained that titles for land, C-of-O, governor’s consent, mortgage consent, among others, are processed at the new office site. “Very soon, we will start the process of recertifying C-of-O and issuing of new C-of-O. The processes here are automated,” he added.

The Federal Government has approved a 10-year validity period for Nigerian passports.

The Federal Government has approved a 10-year validity period for Nigerian passports

This followed a presidential approval to change the face of the e-passport 10 years after it was introduced in the country.

The Comptroller-General of Nigerian Immigration Service, Muhammed Babandede, who said this in a report monitored on Channels Tv on Thursday, added that the extended validity period would reduce the stress Nigerians went through every five years to renew their passports.

“One of the reforms he (President Buhari) has approved is that we would improve the quality, security of our passport booklets.

“Ten years after the enrolment of the e-passport system, we need to improve the security features. You can’t keep documents for 10 years without seeing decreased values in them, so we are improving the security features which would raise the standards of the passports,” the CG explained.

He added that the President also approved improved security features for the documents.

Babandede, however, disclosed that the new passports would cost more, but he did not reveal the new prices for the various categories of the passports.

He said, “President Buhari has equally approved 10-year validity for passports which is great news. When the report comes, passports will be valid for 10 years which is great news especially for adults from the age of 18 and above.”

“Though people will pay more, if they can pay more and get the booklets quickly, it’s good with improved security for 10 years validity. They would pay more but the document would be available, that’s good,” Babandede said.

Remarkable Day For Nigeria’ — FG Unveils Name, Logo Of New National Career In London

Nigeria’s new carrier to begin operations in December 2018 will be known as Nigeria Air, Hadi Sirika, Minister of State for Aviation, revealed in London on Wednesday.

Sirika unveiled the name and logo of the new national carrier at the ongoing Farnborough International Airshow, saying the carrier is private sector-driven, and is therefore a “business” rather than a “social service”.

He also said the government will not own more than five per cent of the airline, and will therefore not be directly involved in its running.

“This is an important day for Nigeria. The largest economy in Africa, largest population, GDP of around half a billion dollars, and the only true aviation player in West and Central Africa,” he said.

“Nigeria has unfortunately not been a serious player in Aviation for a long time. We used to be a dominant player, through Nigeria Airways, but sadly not anymore.

“This will be a national carrier that is private sector led and driven. It is a business, not a social service. The government will not be involved in running it or deciding who runs it. The investors will have full responsibility for this.

“The Nigerian government will not own more than 5% (maximum) of the new national carrier. The government will not be involved in running it or deciding who runs it.”

Sirika also explained that the new terminals in Lagos and Abuja Airports will add 11 million passenger capacity in each of the two airports, while the airline will have flights on 81 domestic, regional and international routes.

Nigeria’s previous carrier, the Nigeria Airways Ltd., was founded in 1958 after the dissolution of West African Airways Corporation (WAAC) but ceased operations in 2003.

No Tax Clearance Certificates, No Authority Papers – Obiano tells Park Managers. By Obika Chidiebele.

The governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has said that from henceforth, any park manager who does not have a Tax Clearance Certificate from the Anambra State Internal Revenue Service will no longer manage any park in the state.

The governor who made this known through his Chief of Staff, Mr Primus Odili, in the meeting of Motor Park Managers in the state held earlier today at the Secretary to The State Government’s Conference Hall, Government House, Awka, observed that it is disgusting that almost all the motor park managers do not have Tax certificates.

The meeting which was convened by the Honourable Commissioner for Transport in the state, Hon Uchenna Okafor, had the MD of Transport Company of Anambra State, Dr Ifeoma Madukasi, Dr. David Nzekwu, Chairman, Anambra State Internal Revenue Service and other Aides to the governor in attendance.

Speaking at the occasion, Hon Uchenna Okafor informed the Park Managers that the new Anambra will accommodate everyone that is ready to partner the state in developing the Transport sector. The Commissioner who pointed that the state government from henceforth, will no longer tolerate some parks that does not remit their money regularly, equally added that the era of illegal toll collectors has gone.

“Our governor, Chief Willie Obiano is working and we cannot continue to loose revenue. Our Federal Allocation is poor to compare with other states and as such, the state harps on these revenues to continue working in the state. Whoever does not have a Tax Clearance Certificate in Anambra will not work in our parks”. He said. Also, he appreciated the managers whom he described as good partners of the state government.

In his Speech, the Chairman of AIRS, Dr Nzekwu informed the participants that what the state is about to embark on is for the benefit of all and sundry in the state, pointing that with a Tax Clearance Certificate, the person is entitled to many benefits in the state. He also added that the innovation was necessary because, it would help the state in proper documentation of all her workers and Agencies.

In their separate observations, Hon Wilfred Ezika, urged the state to introduce terrif in their authority papers to the Motor Park Managers which according to him will help checkmake illegal toll collectors in the state. Mr Chidi Onumajuru (GM Eastern Mass, SouthEast Region and Secretary, Mass Transit Union in the state), appreciated the conveners of the meeting. He inquired from the state, on whether the Tax from the Federal Government is different from that of the state. A enquiry of which he was immediately cleared. He further thanked Gov Willie Obiano for providing security in the state saying that it had helped them in their working places.

Nnewi Shopping Mall: The Controversies and Conspiracies.

Nnewi Shopping Mall:
The Controversies and Conspiracies.FB_IMG_1529576416718.jpgFB_IMG_1529576413518.jpgFB_IMG_1529576409553.jpgFB_IMG_1529576416718.jpg

Since the commencement of the construction of Nnewi Shopping Mall during the administration of Former Governor of Anambra State His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi, the project has been riddled with many controversies both from the angle of the Government and the host community Nnewi.

The Shopping Mall is situated at the heart of the town which is Nkwo Nnewi triangle.
Nkwo Nnewi triangle is a communal land of Nnewi, it is owned by all the four quarters in Nnewi which include Otolo, Uruagu, Umudim and Nnewichi and remains the meeting point for the people of Nnewi.

Despite being a communal land of Nnewi, various attempts has been made by unpatriotic Nnewi indigenes to either hoodwink the town into selling the land or conniving with the government officials to forcefully take the land.
However in 2013, The then Governor of Anambra state, His Excellency Mr. Peter Obi allegedly conspired with some businessmen who are mostly from Nnewi to take over the land for a shopping mall project without due Process.

The project was awarded to an unnamed Chinese firm at the cost of #3 Billion Naira.
During the ground breaking ceremony in 2013, Governor Peter Obi announced that the Government has paid #600 Million Naira mobilization fee to the contractor which represent the 20% of the contract Sum.

However, before construction fully started, some group of patriotic Nnewi indigenes led by Senator Onyeabo Obi kicked against the project and the manner the land was taken from the town.
They took the government to court and an injunction was given which ordered the government to stop the project. Despite the court injunction, the government continued with the construction of the project.
The state government failed to follow the Procedure as stipulated in the land use act, while it is the right of the government to take over any land in any part of the state for projects, the law stipulates that it will be in the overriding public interest. A commercial venture doesn’t meet that requirement.

As the legal battle continued, in 2017, the present Governor of Anambra state His Excellency Dr. Willie Obiano wrote a letter addressed to His Royal Highness Igwe Kenneth Orizu (111) Igwe Nnewi announcing that the uncompleted shopping mall project have been handed to Nnewi with the following conditions:

1. That Nnewi will refund all the money spent by the government so far on the project.
2. That Nnewi will complete the project with the time envisaged in the original plan.
3. That Nnewi after completion of the project will let the shopping mall to those who it was contracted to.

This sparked jubilation among some indigenes of the town but some patriotic Nnewi indigenes rejected the Governors proposal with the following points:

1. That the state government must cancel the gazette which took the land away from Nnewi.
2: That the state government must hand over the land to Nnewi unconditionally.
3. That the state government must pay #500 million Naira as damages to the town.

However, it is important to note that if the Governor was sincere, the letter should not have been addressed to Igwe Nnewi but to the President General of Nzuko-Ora Nnewi as a law in Anambra state have stripped the rights of Igwe’s in taking decision concerning issues of governance in their Communities especially as it concerns projects.

The truth remains that it is against all known government standard practice and ethics for uncompleted project to be handed over a community. Nnewi as a town never solicited for the government to construct a shopping mall in the town, hence handing over the project to the town remains a trap to destroy the town.

Earlier this year, in what may appear to be a surprise to many, the Government of Anambra state through its agency Anambra state investment and protection agency (ANSIPPA) placed a newspaper advert announcing the privatisation of Nnewi shopping mall and called for bidders. Though nothing have been heard since the advertorial was placed.
This act once again shows insincerity on the part of the state government.

It appears that the Nnewi community will continue to wait till God knows when before the controversy ends.

It is very unfortunate that some rich men in the town have continued to conspire with the state government to frustrate efforts being made by the town to recover Nkwo Nnewi Triangle.

Nkwo Nnewi Triangle because of its position to Nnewi should have been used for projects like Conference Center or rather relaxation park with garden and stadium which will be more befitting than building a shopping mall.
An American firm last few years wanted to buy the land to build a library, shops and five star hotel but the leadership of the town rejected the idea.

As it stands, the fact remains that allowing a shopping mall to be built in Nnewi will close down many shops in Nkwo Nnewi and will also destroy the local economy in the town.

The government should rather remodel Nkwo Nnewi market and make it more friendly for buyers and sellers by providing convenient parking places, good toilet facilities as seen in modern shopping malls.
