‘Please Say Something’, Family Of Captain Missing Since Metele Attack Begs The Army

Relatives of Captain Ogbonna Akpa Nwota have raised the alarm over his whereabouts after the Boko Haram attack in Metele, Borno State, in November 2018.

Although the Army claimed only 23 soldiers were killed in the attack, security sources told SaharaReporters that more than 120 men, including soldiers and Civilian JTF members, had indeed been killed while about 200 more were still missing.

Nineteen of those soldiers wwre buried in December 2018. However, family members of Nwota of Amikpa, Umudomi, Onicha, in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State say Captain Nwota was in one of the units involved in the fight against Boko Haram in that attack.

Grace Nwota, a widow and mother of the soldier, who is in her 60s, lamented her frustration at not being able to say exactly what happened to her son.

“I am just praying to God to let this cup pass over me,” she told SaharaReporters.

“As you see me here, I am finished; my blood pressure has not come down since we heard of the attack in that place. Our problem now is that nobody is talking to us. Even our village union has gone to Enugu to see the Army people but they didn’t tell us anything. So, I’m begging that they should tell me if my son is dead or alive.

“I am also praying that nothing bad should happen to my son, because his children are still very small and I don’t want my daughter-in-law to suffer my fate because my husband died very early in our marriage.”

Similarly, Chief Agom Okorie, Chairman of ADU, stated that a letter had been forwarded to the Nigerian Army on December 19, 2018, but they had not received any positive feedback on the matter.

His wife, Nneka, said the last time she spoke to her husband was in August 2018.

Meanwhile, the family through its counsel, Ugochukwu Ezekiel-Hanks of E.H. Ugochukwu Chambers, has written to the Army on the soldier’s whereabouts, but he has not received any feedback.

According to a family member, Nwota should have gone to the Command and Staff College, Jaji, this month, but was sent on special posting to the North-East. He is also said to have been in the North-East region for four years, participating in the battle against insurgency.

Dr. Laz Ude Eze, a family friend to the Nwota’s, also confirmed the report to SaharaReporters.

Noting that the soldier had not been heard from since November 18, 2018, Eze said: “I know Captain Nwota and his family personally. We attended GSS Afikpo together. The pain the family and his loved ones have gone through over the past two months is better imagined than experienced. The silence of the military authorities is sheer wickedness, to say the least! Captain Nwota and no soldier or the family deserve to be treated this way.”

Malian Herdsmen In Sokoto, Not Jihadists – Police

The Police Command in Sokoto state on Saturday dispelled rumours of influx of Juhadists in the state

There had been reports of such influx in some social media, especially in the late hours of Friday.

The Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Cordelia Nwawe, disclosed this while addressing newsmen on Saturday in Sokoto.

Nwawe said, “our attention was drown toward a report that some unknown herdsmen were sighted in Gudu and Tangaza local government called Jahadists fully armed to destroy the peace in the area.

“The situation was misreported based on our intelligence report.

“The herdsmen sighted are reasonably believed to be Malians who reside in a forest in Niger Republic, sharing border with Gudu and Tangaza local government areas of the state.

“The herdsmen are annual visitors to the nearby forest bordering the two local governments with their cattle and always stayed in the forest in Niger Republic.

“Even though the number of their cattle increased exponentially this year to about 3,000 from the usual figures of less than 1000, it was discovered that they are not known to be violent.

“Moreover, they occasionally enter the villages in the two local governments to procure food and other essentials and retire back to the forest,” Nwawe said.

She called on the people living in the areas to remain calm and go on their normal business, assuring that police were always there to protect their lives and properties.

The spokesperson added that the situation of the areas remained peaceful and enjoined the people to always assist police with useful information that could lead to the success of the command in the state. (NAN)

I Cannot Take Responsibility For Chibok Girls’ Abduction” – Goodluck Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has said that he cannot take responsibility for the abduction of the Chibok girls in April 2014 as he does not control the terrorist group.

Recall that Boko Haram members stormed the Government Girls Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State, on April 14th 2014 and abducted over 200 girls.

Speaking in an interview with BBC on Friday, November 30th, Jonathan said he did all that was expected of any responsible government to do immediately the girls were abducted.

“Immediately the Chibok [schoolgirls] issue came up, we expected Nigerians to be concerned. ‘How do we get these girls out?’ Within a couple of days, we saw people going to the US with Bring Back Our Girls placards.

How? Why? And of course, Mrs. Obama received one of those placards. I cannot take responsibility for that abduction. I don’t control Boko Haram. They are criminals.

“But as a president, of course you know it’s not the president that goes to the fields. You have security and intelligence officers that do the work. Let me admit that yes, maybe they do their best, but their best was not good enough for us to recover the girls.

That I cannot say I am right or I am wrong. That does not mean I am trying to remove myself from any blame. Yes, I may not be blamed for the action, but I could be blamed that my security and intelligence systems were not strong enough to be able to rescue the girls.

“If I as a politician, will tell the whole world that my political ambition for any single office is not worth the blood of any Nigerian, how will I be happy that girls have been kidnapped? I’m not that kind of character.”

“The two men vehemently disagreed with each other. However, during the altercation, the said Inspector Olukunle Olonade allegedly shot the LASTMA officer to death.

Breaking News:Gov Udom Disrupts A’Ibom Assembly, As 11 Members Suspended

APC Speaker Nsen Ntuen suspends PDP Speaker Onofiok Luke, 11 others

Governor Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom State

The governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, on Tuesday, stormed the state House of Assembly and reportedly disrupted the House sitting of a faction fomenting trouble led by Hon. Nsen Ntuen of the All Progressives Congress [APC].

The Assembly rose in an uproar and split between APC and Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] legislators as two members, Hon. Ntuen and Hon. Onofiok Luke tried to lay claim as legitimate speakers.

Consequently, Governor Emmanuel stormed the complex and reportedly disrupted the sitting by the five APC members.

The faction led by Ntuen, who was purportedly elected Speaker last week, held a session today and claimed to have suspended 11 members, with former speaker Onofiok Luke top of the list.

There are 26 members of the assembly.

Meanwhile, Luke had also convened last week Monday and had suspended Ntuen, along with four other members.

Other members suspended by Ntuen are Udo Kerian Akpan, Felicia Bassey, Nse Essien, Lawrence Udofia, Usoro Akpanusoh, Ime Okon, Friday Iwok, Asuquo Archibong, Mark Esset, Emmanuel Ekpenyong, Aniekan Uko till further notice.Ntuen also dissolved all standing committees constituted by the former speaker and adjourned till next week Tuesday 4 December.RELATED POSTS

The PDP on its Twitter handle accused former governor Godswill Akpabio for masterminding the crisis, which caused the transfer of former police commissioner, Bassey Abang.

A new commissioner, Musa Kimo reported for work last week.

The PDP claimed that Ntuen, aided by thugs and the police, stormed the house today to sit.

But the Ntuen group is also accusing the PDP member, Luke of carrying out illegalities, by suspending him and four other members.

On Monday, the new police commissioner Kimo, condemned the crisis rocking the House of Assembly, during a meeting with 20 political parties in the state.

Kimo described the crisis as ‘ugly and worrisome’, according to NAN.

It remains to be seen what Luke’s next move will be before Tuesday

“Wither Moral Conscience.”

Et tu, Brute? is a Latin phrase meaning “even you Brutus?” It is notable for its occurrence in William Shakespeare’s play Julius Caesar, where it is spoken by the Roman dictator Julius Caesar to his friend Marcus Junius Brutus at the moment of Caesar’s assassination. Wikipedia.

Same scenario applies in Anambra State today, when “Moral Conscience” with a pained eye, have stared the leadership of NUJ in the face, and with quivering lips “Et tu NUJ?”

It is not wrongful to expect a renowned assemblage of reputable journalists in Anambra State, towards their 2018 Press Week; but to have Chinedu Obidigwe as the Chairman of that event, falls short of all intelligent expectations and moral rectitude on the part of the organisers and the Event proper.

In a letter headed paper, dated 1 Nov. 2018, with ref. No NUJ/AN/COR/3/60, and signed by the NUJ Chairman and Secretary respectively, inviting the Aguleri alleged thug to chair an intellectual gathering, on the Theme; Party Politics, Hate Speech and the Media; Should be likened to inviting a “military dictator, to chair a lecture on building the tenets of democracy!”

Such an invite, has not only succeeded in making mockery of the Event Theme, and the discussions, but has thrown more light on the intellectual deficiencies and moral bankruptcy of the organisers.

Just recently, it was the National Association of Nigerian Student, NANS, taking the role of media assistants of Chinedu Obidigwe, to champion his fading popularity, at the height of the Eneh abduction saga; Now NUJ has given us the impression that ‘although the pen can be mightier than the sword, a cheque booklet is the mightiest of them all!
“There was a bug called Cash and Carry.”

How can any reasonable and intelligent conscious mind, sit for hours and hear Chinedu Obidigwe rail against hate speech as an impediment to a successful free and fair 2019 general elections? Is Chinedu Obidigwe not ladened with guilt? in making hate speech against his real or imagined political foes? The same person Who openly led an evil Protest with some ignorant and jobless people, to malign and abuse a former Governor of the State, HE Peter Obi? and his media mafians /warriors /foot soldiers are devotedly damaging any eminent personalities who are opposition and perceived political rivals?

How can NUJ, after long considerations and suggestions from different quarters, settled with the very Controversial man, as it’s Chairman for the 2018 Press Week, to discuss hate speech and how it effects democracy?

It would have been quite understandable, if Chinedu Obidigwe had been made to Chair any of the NUJ’s launching occasion, where Naira can rain freely, that which is typical of our public officials, Our moral antenna wouldn’t have been so buzzing with apprehensions, than having him to Chair an Event of such an intellectual proportion.
“The bull finally succeeded in making itself into a China shop.”

What has he got to offer the public on telling them to discard hate speech and embrace good sportsmanship during elections? How can his recent abduction case with a media personality, Mr Victor Eneh, sit well within his stony heart, as he opens his Chairman’s remark on that occasion?

NUJ Anambra State chapter has failed in its professionalism, in ensuring that sound Characters, are brought to enlighten and educate appropriately, in their 2018 Press Week.

Nigeria Institute of Public Relations, NIPR, should as a matter of fact, be relied on to provide the needed professional journalistic charisma for our teeming young journalists. They should take the lead in informing and enlightening the general public on sensitive issues, bothering on humanity and morality like Genetic Education and Compatibility before marriage which NUJ relegated to the background for online bloggers. They should also help in investigating and drawing the attentions of all authorities to Signing the Sickle Cell Bill into Law as a matter of Urgency, Since there is no money to facilitate the sponsorship of that Bill.

Social Media is another rich pool, where information and educative submissions can be arrayed for public consumptions. But more is need to properly sanitize and regulate it’s functions to guard against abuses of different source.

And to the invitees of NUJ 2018 Press Week, Chaired by Chinedu Obidigwe, I humbly advice that people find more meaningful activities for their precious time.

“The pen still is the mightiest”

Metele Boko Haram Attack: Soldiers’ Death Toll Rises To 118, Over 150 Still Missing

News details obtained by PREMIUM TIMES have revealed that at least 113 soldiers were killed in the pre-dusk attack on 157 Task Force Battalion in Borno State on November 18.

The newspaper also confirmed based on the accounts of top military officers that 153 soldiers are still missing in action as of November 24, nearly a week after the attack.

Those killed included the commander of the battalion, a lieutenant colonel.

It has now been learnt that the second-in-command to the commander, the intelligence officer of the battalion and two other officers were amongst those killed by Boko Haram in the attack, which occurred at about 6:00 p.m. last Sunday.

On November 22, a soldier who escaped the attack and witnessed how his colleagues were killed by insurgents disclosed that 70 bodies had been confirmed.

Some media reports, including one by London-based newswire, Reuters, cited sources as giving up to 100 soldiers killed by the insurgents in the attacks.

But PREMIUM TIMES has now learnt from top officers that the casualty had risen significantly to 118 soldiers, comprising 113 soldiers and five officers.

Sources also confirmed 153 soldiers are still missing in action, and wounded troops have been evacuated to Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, for treatment.

President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly summoned service chiefs over the attack. He also dispatched Nigeria’s defence minister Mansur Dan Ali to Chad Republic, a neighbouring country on whose borders the Boko Haram seemed to have waxed stronger in recent month.

Two Policemen, Four Others Feared Dead As IPOB Protest In Anambra

Two policemen and four others believed to be members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra on Friday died during the group’s protest in Nnewi, Anambra State.

But the Anambra State Police Command said only one policeman died in the protest while a Divisional Police Officer in the area was hospitalised after sustaining injuries in the clash that erupted when security agencies stormed the venue of the protest.

Speaking with our correspondent on the telephone, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations, Mike Okoli, said, “I will confirm to you that we lost a policeman, an inspector in the clash. The DPO who went with him to that operation is hospitalised. I can’t tell you of any other casualties; this is the much I know.

It was gathered that the pro-Biafran agitators marched round Nnewi and environs on Friday sensitising the people about the need for a referendum to highlight the need for the Sovereign State of Biafra and the rejection of the 2019 general elections.

Members of the group numbering about 2000 had stormed the Nnewi market, shouting “No referendum, no 2019 election.”

Waving the Biafran flag as they moved round, the protesters asked people in the market not to participate in the 2019 general elections unless the Federal Government heeded their demand for the conduct of referendum to actualise Biafra Republic.

Our correspondent gathered that trouble started when security operatives arrived at the scene in three Toyota Hilux pick-up vans and attempted to stop the protesters.

Members of the group were said to have pounced on the policemen and destroyed their vans, with two people dead in the process. The development forced traders in the Nkwo Nnewi market to close their shops and scampering for safety.

The IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, in a statement made available to our correspondent in Awka, said members of the group went on a peaceful demonstration to express their joy over the “second coming and appearance” of the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, in Israel.

Powerful said the reappearance of their leader was a testimony that the struggle for Biafra was divine.

The statement partly read, “Our leader’s reappearance in Israel after the Nigerian government and her security forces, including the Nigerian Army, Air force and Naval forces invaded his compound at Afaraukwu Ibeku in Umuahia, Abia State, last year September is clearly an indication to all and sundry that God Almighty is behind the struggle for Biafra liberation.

“Biafrans are equally today showcasing to the world that we are ready to boycott every Nigerian elections come 2019 especially the presidential election next year.

“Our march today on the roads and streets across Biafraland must send signals to politicians and saboteurs among us that Biafrans are determined to leave the prison called Nigeria where British government experimented to lead black Africans and other black nations across the globe but failed to live up to the expectations for over 100 years because of the Hausa-Fulani caliphate dominations.

“IPOB rally and march today (Friday) being November 23, 2018 is ongoing in all the states across Biafraland like Rivers, Enugu, Abia, Anambra, Delta, Imo, Ebonyi, Cross Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa states and other Biafra clans and tribes fraudulently carved into Kogi, Benue and Edo States.”

He said the group would not rest until a date was given for Biafra referendum to hold so that its people would decide whether to stay in Nigeria or not.

He added, “IPOB is divinely ordained to retrieve Biafra sovereignty from this enclave called Nigeria. We are coming to show Nigerians and its handlers including their security apparatus what is called civil disobedience because IPOB is more of intellectuals.

Justice For Eneh:From My Weekly Column ‘ The Standpoint’

Eneh Victor Chigozie is a prominent blogger and social media influencer in the SouthEast part of the country. A gadfly, Eneh has repeatedly being a thorn in the flesh of several political big wigs, exposing shady political practices as well as advocating for good governance for the zone.

Owing to the democratisation of the news sphere, a dangling consequence of the upsurge of social media, Eneh’s page on Facebook is a meeting place for the latest servings of political news, squawks, shrieks and even whimpers behind our political scenes.

An undaunted crusader, Eneh has never being afraid on taking on the big wigs in the SouthEast and treads where the ‘strong’ shy away from, little wonder he is a readers delight and even those he criticises sometimes agree with his punting as well as admire his courage and consistency.

Unfortunately, Eneh was last week kidnapped under the pretext of an arrest by policemen in Enugu and forcefully taken to one Chinedu Obidigwe’s house, where he was beaten and humiliated for hours before he was moved to the State CID and charged for defamation of character!

Eneh had in several articles alleged that this particular Chinedu Obidigwe, who had served as SSA on Political Affairs to Governor Willie Obiano in the latter’s first tenure was not qualified to vie for the Anambra East/West House of Representatives seat, owing to a number of fluorescent discrepancies in his documentation filed with the electoral body. For example, according to Eneh, the documents tendered by Obidigwe were at variance with one another; while his WAEC had his Year of Birth as 1981, a sworn affidavit submitted to the same INEC captured his year of birth as 1979. Eneh had also gone on to allege that Obidigwe’s claim to graduating from the Ebonyi State University was false as there were no records to show that he had graduated from the school, even though he had stated it as part of his educational qualifications.

Eneh may have been right in his allegations, he may also have been wrong and I will not hold forth for him, sadly this Chinedu Obidigwe, like a medieval baron thinking that Anambra State is his fiefdom, got some policemen to head to Enugu and kidnap Eneh Victor under the pretext of an arrest, these officers then drove Eneh in the dead of the night to Obidigwe’s apartment as alleged by Eneh where he was beaten up and humiliated ( Eneh alleges that Obidigwe poured drinks on him while he was beating him up before he was handed over to the State CID).

This enraged a number of notable personalities in Anambra State, who angered by this brazen act of devilment intervened to get Eneh out of detention. I must commend the likes of Chief Bonaventure Mokwe, Hon Tony Nwoye, Ifeanyi Ubah and Senator Stella Oduah for the various yeoman roles they played in getting Eneh out of detention. Also, the act enraged a number of social media practitioners like myself, who have not questioned Obidigwe’s right to be aggrieved but the repulsively grotesque manner in which he has sought to channel such grievances. I mean, Obidigwe could have gone to court to seek redress if he felt that his rights as a citizen had been infringed upon, rather than forcefully arrest Eneh as if we are a Gestapo State. Thus, these men and women have taken up the gauntlet for Eneh who they see as one of their own, for today N8bn  is Eneh who is presently recuperating in a hospital in Abuja after his release, tomorrow it may be one of us; signalling the death of free speech, as such an act may now serve as a precedent, who knows? Perhaps, tomorrow, another fellow, emboldened by such might attempt a kidnap or a Kashoogi styled murder!

I therefore lend my voice to the calls for justice for Eneh Victor, I call on the Presidency, the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies as well as human rights groups and other well meaning Nigerians to ensure that justice is done in this affair, for it seems that Chinedu Obidigwe seeks to return Anambra to its bloody past, where thuggery is elevated while reason and civility is knuckled down!

Peter Obi Goofs On The Nation’s Foreign Reserves

A number of PDP supporters have always touted its running mate for the Presidential elections, Mr. Peter Obi as an economic guru and financial wizard. This is despite the fact that while he served as Governor of Anambra, the state’s poverty index widened, despite the increase in the state’s allocation owing to the oil boom then.

To my chagrin, Peter Obi had at the annual Zik’s memorial lecture reeled out to the astonishment of many certain figures that I was dead sure were contrary to what’s truly obtains in our country. He pegged our Foreign Reserves at 30 Bn USD, a very wrong figure from what it stands at today, which is 42.124 Bn USD.

So much for economic ‘wizardry’.

“Suffer not a foolish relation to express his fooly where your own sanity would be called to question.”

The recent provocations and incitements by some microscopic and unknown social media handlers, to this growing ‘ tumor’ of the Aguleri politicians, calling on non indigenes of the State to vacate their cyber space inter alia, Anambra State and their source of livelihood here, has been a joke to far. What made them to have called for an exodus of law abiding and fellow citizens resident in the State, is still shrouded in mystery.

When the Oba of Lagos, made a similar hate comments against the Igbo Nation, at the build up towards the 2015 general elections, the condemnations from far and wide that greeted it, forced him to tender a warm apology and retract his earlier speech.

Now, Anambra State has shifted from being the pride of the Nation to promoting a Satanic agenda. How can a few, who lacks the knowledge of both the Nigerian and Anambra State history, be making inciting comments, capable of throwing us all into chaos, and yet are allowed to continue with their tantrums, without strong condemnations from the State Government, on the dangers it portends to democracy?

If this inciting comments can be traced to Governor Willie Obiano social media Supporters, and he, Governor, would not condemn it in stronger terms, then Obiano has failed in both his constitutional and moral responsibilities as the Chief Executive of the State, as well as a Father. Such public incitements would not only cause disaffections in some quarters, but is capable of crippling the economic cohesion of the State.

For instance, Ebonyi indigenes, residing in Anambra State, has been a steady pool, where the labour force, on menial jobs, that are demeaning to some people, are fetched. They have contributed immensely to the success stories recorded by the State, in terms of revenue generations, transport business and Sanitary exercises.

The SA to the Governor on Media, Mr James Eze, from Enugu State, has been the good spirited image maker of Governor Willie Obiano administration and Anambra State in general. He promoted and diffused mounting doubts against the administration. He professionally managed all media slingshots aimed to sabotage the works of his Principal.

When Csp.James Nwafor (rtd), an indigene of Ebonyi State, held sway as Commander SARS, he fought kidnappers and armed robbers to standstill, then Anambra State was at the grip of violent crimes and total security meltdown. He must have been doing his job, as some will allege, but it takes strong determination and will power to confront such daredevils, never adding his profound love for the State in seeing it rid of criminal elements. “Anambrarians began sleeping with their two eyes closed.”

Elections in Anambra State, especially the last gubernatorial, of which the Most publicized 21/21 gibberish came about, got it’s uncompromising block votes from non-indigenes of the State especially the Ebonyi State Indigene which won them victory. Governor Willie Obiano, prior to the elections, made a passionate appeal with cash and vehicle donation to the community of Ebonyi people in the State for effective mobilization while begging for their votes and supports before Nov 2018 election. His wish was granted without any form of betrayal or request for automatic tickets or greed of any kind.

It is on record that the first specialist clinic in a NAUTH Ukpo for Sickle Cell patient in the State was initiated, engineered, Celebrated and brought to reality by a non-indigene of the State. Governor Willie Obiano, who promised to build three Specialist Hospitals for Sickle Cell victims, in the three Senatorial Districts of the State, an Ambulance and a Bus through Dr.Joe Akabuike, for long now, has be ‘wobbling’ on that promises, while deaths and sufferings of Sickle Cell victims kept increasing.

As the National Coordinator of Association of Persons Living with Sickle Cell Disorder, with Anambra State in focus, I have been Successful in paying the government School tuition fees of about an average of 50 Sickle Cell Victims each year, and for four years now. Not counting the Specialist Clinic at Ukpo, and the Vocational center at Nanka initiated and set up by me. If I may ask candidly, how many Anambrarians has done such in my own Ebonyi State, Kano State or Imo State where I have my strong ties?

It is also disheartening to note, that among members of APLSCD in Anambra State, power at corridor   and Aguleri in particular, are the worst off in terms of appearances, unhealthy living and cleanliness, they always look haggardly and sickly, and if I am annoyed further or pushed to the wall, I will start publishing their sorry state to the entire world!
“What has the political elites from that zone done to help this people who might even be related to them”?

“Why hasn’t the present Administration deemed it expedient to pass the Sickle Cell Law? or even be merciful enough to grant them mobility (Bus) to attend their welfare meetings and medical Clinics? What are they benefiting in the deaths and miseries of Sickle Cell Victims”?

For the avoidance of doubt, for posterity, and for human conscience sake, I would like to make some few clarifications.

  1. Governor Willie Obiano, has one time, gave the Association of People Living with Sickle Cell Disorder, the sum of #1m, which would have been silenced into the private pockets of some unscrupulous Government aids in the ministry of health headed by Joe Akabuike, if not for my alarm and the timely intervention of good men like Apga Alaigbo and Victor Eneh, who went to publish and expose them in various social media.
  2. The cheque from the Governor was never drawn in my personal names, Aisha Edward, but rather Association of People Living with Sickle Cell Disorder. APLSCD, is structured with it’s Chairman, Board of Directors, and Chaplains, and any kobo that comes in and out is duly registered and accounted for.
  3. Governor Willie Obiano’s #1m, was part of the money used in paying the School tuition fees of some indigent members of APLSCD, and other welfare packages, at St Joseph Catholic Church Ekwulobia after our Thanksgiving mass as at that time in 2016.
  4. Rumour peddler Emeka Odionu, a media aid to the Governor, and his likes, has been circulating falsehood that I personally received the sum of #3m from his Excellency. This has been a deliberate attempt to defame my person, and tarnish my hard earned reputation as a Moral Mentor, and also to cause anxiety within APLSCD. His Excellency should hold Emeka Odionu responsible to account for any #3m, that must have exchanged hands in the guise of helping APLSCD.
  5. The same Emeka Odionu, has been running about, like one suffering from bowel dysfunctions, spreading hate about the nobles ideals of APLSCD. He has countless of times, made some derogatory and scathing remarks on the respected leaders of APLSCD, threatened to Assault us if we don’t leave your campaign office in 2017 when they came to give their solidarity support to APGA because of their perceived effort on Sickle Cell Law, Calling them beggars, and raining all manner of insults.

Sincerely speaking we are the butt of Emeka Odionu’s mischievous jokes, because we are fighting to improve the living conditions of Sickle Cell victims in Anambra State and help sensitize the general public on gender compatibility. Buhari Declared State Of Emergency On Water, Sanitation And Hygiene Sector

President Muhammadu Buhari has declared a state of emergency on Nigeria’s water supply, sanitation and hygiene sector.

In a statement by Buhari’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the president maintained that the action became imperative as it will reduce the hig prevalence of water-borne diseases in different parts of the country, which has caused preventable deaths.

Buhari described statistics on open defecation, access to piped water service and sanitation as “disturbing” while committing to implement the National Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Action Plan.

The statement read: “Access to piped water services which was 32% in 1990 has declined to 7% in 2015; access to improved sanitation has also decreased from 38% in 1990 to 29% in 2015. Our country now ranks No 2 in the global rating on open defecation as about 25% of our population are practising open defecation.

”WASH services at the rural areas are unsustainable as 46% of all water schemes are non-functional, and the share of our spending on WASH sector has been declining from 0.70% of the GDP in 1990 to about 0.27% in 2015, which is far below the 0.70% at the West African regional level.”

The President also noted that the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) targets (6.1 & 6.2) for WASH are more demanding as they require WASH services to be provided in adequate quantity and quality on premises at affordable prices, while adding that a new approach has to be taken to achieve it.

Buhari called on all state governments to work with the new provision to achieve the SDG targets for WASH by 2030.

”It is on this premise that I fully endorse the decision taken at the meeting of the Federal Executive Council in April this year to declare a state of emergency on our WASH Sector.

”I call on all state governments to complement this effort by according the sector similar recognition to enable us work together to achieve the SDG targets for WASH by 2030.”

Breaking News :Enugu APC Chair Escapes Assassination, Police Aide Shot

The crisis rocking Enugu State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) got messier, yesterday, as alleged hired assassins, who invaded residence of the state party chairman, Dr. Ben Nwoye, shot and severely injured a police orderly attached to him.
This was as a detachment of policemen took over the APC boss’ residence on Independence Layout, Enugu.

The Guardian learned that the incident occurred at about 2.30 am. The Sergeant, Gerald Eke, whose body was riddled with bullets, was battling for survival at the National Orthopaedic Hospital. Nwoye said: “I heard some banging on the main gate and thought it was some of my aides that came late. The banging persisted for about 10 minutes or more, and the gate was eventually opened. I heard footsteps and thought they belonged to my workers.

“A few minutes later, the public light went off. So, I called my driver to turn on the generator, but he didn’t pick. So, I called the senior police officer, Inspector Charles Ugwu. He went down and few minutes after, I started hearing gunshots. That was around 1 am. Then a few minutes later, I started hearing screams from one of my police officers, Gerald Eke, that he had been hit, that they had killed him. I started calling the Commissioner of Police, and they responded and started to radio everywhere. I looked through the window and saw smoke and people moving out.

“I came down and saw Eke with blood gushing out from all over his body. His gun was stolen. We rushed him to Parklane Hospital, but they couldn’t help his case and referred us to Orthopaedic Hospital, where he received emergency treatment. “It was a politically calculated attempt on my life. Those behind it should be arrested and prosecuted. When this thing started earlier, I made reports. During our primary, one of the aspirants mobilized thugs to disperse what we were doing. I have strong conviction that what happened had to do with the crisis in our party, and attempt by some persons to become state APC chairman, so as to present governorship candidates.”

He lamented that Enugu was gradually returning to the dark days when people were not free to go about their lawful duties or sleep in the night for fear of being killed.

Chibok Parents:Eager To Hear From Buhari

Parents of the remaining Chibok schoolgirls in Boko Haram’s captivity have expressed worry that President Muhammadu Buhari has not yet sent a delegation to console them as he did for the mother of Leah Sharibu, the only remaining Dapchi schoolgirl abducted by the sect.

The chairman of Chibok Parents Association, Yakubu Nkenke, told Daily Trust yesterday, that the parents were anxious to hear directly from Buhari, not from the media.

He said, so far, 25 of the parents had died waiting for their children’s release; while others had remained physically and emotionally affected.

He said although the parents were grateful to the federal government for negotiating the release of 112 girls and rescue of four others, sending a delegation to Chibok would enable them to interface with the government.

“The parents trust the Buhari administration because they fulfilled their promises on the freed 103 girls. Even the four girls who escaped on their own were able to make it because of the pressure mounted on the insurgents. But as human beings, they feel it is taking too long to bring back their children after they were told it would happen soon.

“There is need for President Muhammadu Buhari to send some representatives to Chibok, if he cannot come himself. This will give the parents of the still missing girls a sense of belonging and solidarity from the federal government.

“I just had meeting with the parents. They were worried that if Buha

Jos varsity under siege, students, staff killed on regular basis – ASUU

The University of Jos chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has said that the institution was under siege with staff and students killed on regular basis. Dr..Lazarus Maigoro, the chairman, who briefed newsmen on Thursday in Jos, said that the fear-stricken students and staff were always scared of the unknown while in the classes or at their residences “Everyday, when we leave our homes to come and discharge our duties, there is no guarantee that we will go back home alive.

“We make bold to say that the University of Jos has not known peace since the first major crisis that hit Plateau on Sept. 7, 2001. “That particular crisis, and subsequent ones, claimed the lives and property of staff and students.

“The recent violence, which hit most parts of Jos town, claimed the lives of two students and one member of staff. “The violence before it claimed the lives of 11 members of the family of a member of staff when his residence was  attacked by gunmen.

“As we speak, one student is still missing while another one is in the hospital nursing a bullet wound. “Staff and students of the institution have become major targets of hoodlums within and outside the university campus,” he said. https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/10/ex-gov-sylva-denies-dumping-apc-for-pdp/ Maigoro said that as a result of inadequate infrastructure and multi-campus nature operated by the university, many members of staff and students live off campus, making them always vulnerable.

“Living in scattered directions make us vulnerable to attacks while going to, or returning from, work or school because the institution is surrounded by violent-prone communities,” he explained. The union demanded immediate reclamation of all lands belonging to the institution which had been encroached upon illegally on different fronts.

It also challenged security agencies to identify the killers of the students and staff so as to bring them to justice, and called for the creation of a permanent buffer zones around the university to guarantee security of members of its community.

The lecturers also called for the strengthening of the internal security apparatus within the institution for improved efficiency during crisis, and advocated a Special Intervention Fund to erect a perimeter fence around the entire land mass belonging to school. They also called for the provision of a Special Intervention Fund for the construction of more hostels and staff quarters to reduce the number of those living outside the campus. The union also called for the creation of alternative routes on campus to aid escape to safety during emergencies.

It also called for an immediate end to the grazing of cattle on the campus, saying that the menace was distracting  academic activities and causing lots of anxiety among members of the university community. ASUU also appealed to the Federal Government to release immediately, the outstanding take-off grant due to the university since its creation more than 40 years ago.

“The release of the grant will facilitate the development of needed infrastructure to bring University of Jos at par with other second generation universities in the country,” the ASUU chairman said.

IPOB Sacks Nnamdi Kanu As Leader For ‘Valuing His Dog Above Murdered Members’

According to Mbakwe, the sack was as a result of the Sunday broadcast credited to Kanu, which he said was a clear indication that Kanu prefers his dog, Jack, to those murdered in the struggle for the realisation of Biafra.

During a broadcast aired on Sunday from his base in Israel, Kanu mourned his dog and “a few other people” in his compound, who lost their lives when troops of Operation Python Dance invaded his residence in September 2017.

“The Army of the zoo killed my dog Jack and a few other people in my compound. I am sorry for what my sureties are passing through, but I want to assure them that they will have a special place in Biafra. I shall not be honouring the court,” the IPOB leader had said in his broadcast.

However, the group said Kanu was an “insensitive and callous leader that has no value for his own followers but rather his dog, Jack whom he paid tributes to after his long disappearance from the struggle”.

They also referred to him as a “traitor not worthy of any leadership position anywhere in the world”.

The international media arm of the proscribed group had announced Kanu’s sack in 2017, noting that he was “dismissed and removed as Director of Radio Biafra following extensive and intensive consultations”. The group said the reasons for which Kanu was removed include “personalisation of the Biafran struggle and derailing from the core objectives of IPOB as a grassroots movement”.

Meanwhile, a statement by Olisa Mbakwe, Director of Strategy and Documentation of IPOB, obtained by SaharaReporters on Monday, read: “On Sunday, October 21, 2018, an individual, Mazi Nnamdi Nwanekaenyi Kanu, claiming to be the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Director General of Radio Biafra made a live broadcast that has left us perplexed, because it is unthinkable that someone will impersonate IPOB to the point of plotting to abuse the organization to hurt the interest of Biafra.

“The strength of the Republic of Biafra that we are struggling to actualize, is in its human resources as embodied in our versatile youths that dominate the fields of play across sectors of human endeavor; the country we have set our vision on creating is therefore not to be made up of tombstones but of people fulfilling their life missions as ordained by God.

“Nnamdi Kanu relinquished his position as the leader of IPOB struggle the day he deserted our members to die, when they had mobilized to stand for our belief in Biafra at his residence in Afaraukwu. Several of our members were injured and some died in that encounter and even after emerging from hiding more than one year later all Kanu could do was to desecrate their memory with his radio broadcast. Nnamdi Kanu vividly, specifically and particularly recalled his family dog, Jack, by name while he dismissed our members that died as mere statistics — he only recalled them as 28 IPOB members.

“Even if Kanu had not deserted, there is no way we would have continued under the leadership of a man that values his family dog more than Biafrans.

“We are not unmindful of how Kanu struck the deal that granted him bail in the first place while abandoning our members, Benjamin Madubugwu, David Nwawusi, Bright Chimezie Ishinwa and Chidiebere Onwudiwe to languish in jail. Instead of using his freedom to accelerate the freedom of these authentic freedom fighters, he rather went about Biafra land receiving obeisance from Biafrans like a monarch, when our dear land is completely republican. The travails of these our brothers are not over yet and might have been worsened by Kanu’s live broadcast, which has totally upset us.

“In line with the decisions earlier announced on Radio Biafra on November 17, 2017 that Mazi Ezenwachukwu Sampson Okwudili is the new director for the radio, we reaffirm that Mazi Nnamdi Nwanekaenyi Kanu remains sacked as the Director of Radio Biafra and has also been removed as the leader of IPOB since he has proven he is not a worthy leader that respects the sanctity of the lives of our members.

“Following interventions by our leaders, considerations were being made to reverse the earlier announcement but after studying the Kanu’s live broadcast from Israel we came to the painful conclusion that we cannot make progress with our vision of Biafra, when one man has completely personalized and commercialized the struggle. The decision to drop Nnamdi Kanu from playing leading roles in IPOB affairs is hereby upheld. We shall announce replacements after consultations with the various stakeholders.”

The fire incident is a major loss for traders in Baga Fish Market, as they have been experiencing challenges in their trade dur to the insurgency in the North-East.

It emerged days ago that renewed attacks and counter-attacks have also made fishing in Lake Chad a struggle, as fishermen pay as much as N10,000 to Boko Haram to get access to the lake.

In the bid to avoid road blocks by soldiers, traders have also resorted to “smuggling fish into Maiduguri by road in bundles of 10 or 30 kilograms stashed in cars and ‘under travellers’ suitcases.’”

She explained that the NSIP which was created in 205 by President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration was officially launched in 2016 to deliver social economic support to disadvantaged Nigerians across the country.

She said, “We have created a value chain with significant economic benefits to the micro economic development of the states. The value chain offers additional benefits of job creation and increased livelihood outcomes for both cooks and small holder-farmers, hence improving livelihood and the local economies.”

She noted that government has suspended some officials of the programme in Benue and Niger States because some of them have taken money without the knowledge of government and even opened personal accounts where they had directed that some money for the programme should be lodged into, adding that those that were caught in the act were currently under investigations by the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

She said, “The National Social Investment Office is ably empowered to suspend the programme in any state where the prescribed standard is reported to have fallen below expectation until a redesigned and realignment is achieved.”

She further explained that the objective of National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme was to provide one nutritious, balanced meal each school day to 5.5million pupils in classes to One to Three in the public primary schools across the a country.

Mrs. Uwais said the programme has achieved 30 percent improvement in school enrollment in the country since its commencement.

Apparently piqued by the development, a detachment of soldiers from the military base in the state, yesterday, went on rampage, setting shops and houses ablaze in Iwukem. http://www.morningstarnaija.com confirmed  that the militants, numbering about 70, stormed the sleepy community at about 10p.m. on Saturday night, and attacked the soldiers stationed in the community to maintain the peace.

An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “Yes, they (the militants) captured two boys and ordered them to take them through the bush path that linked Ikot Esop and Iwuekm. “The boys took them along the track that led to the junction through Hospital Road. When they came out from the road, they came face to face with the soldiers at the roundabout.

“Because the soldiers were not expecting any eventuality, they were caught off guard; the bullets killed one of them. The Hilux van was set ablaze, while others fled in a hail of bullets. Five other civilians were killed in the crossfire.”

The source said two of the dead civilians came from the neighbouring villages of Ika and Ukanafun, while the other three hailed from Iwukem, where the incident occurred. The state’s Police Public Relations Officer, Madcon Ogbechie, who confirmed the incident said: “Investigation is already ongoing and we will get to the bottom of it.” At press time, the military hierarchy at 2 Battalion, Nigeria Army, Uyo, did not respond to inquiries on the issue. On his part, Divisional Police Officer, Etim Ekpo, Chairman Dore, said efforts were on “to ascertain whether the dead civilians were innocent local residents or some of the hoodlums caught in the crossfire.”

He blamed consistent militants’ activities in the area on cultism, lamenting the inability of the local residents to volunteer information on criminal elements in their neighbourhoods for easy detection and confrontation by security forces.
